The author of your posted article may be guilty of jumping to conclusions, but I would suspect he is not too far off-track. A neighbor who is a member of Opus Dei took me to a little recruiting party once. She, by the way had breifly worked for Bork's editorial staff. The spiritual director of the event was Fr. Scalia, son of Justice Scalia. At least one of Scalia's other siblings was there at the Opus Dei shindig. If Roberts is a Novus Ordo Catholic, I view it as impossible for him to acheive this status without being a follower of Escriva. Opus dei is a front for nefarious geopolitics, but it is probable that the young, affluent recruits, like the low-level masons don't realize who it is that they actually work for.
