engineered shortages

Some of us think that "Peak Oil" could be a scam by the oil companies. Here's some information about how they've been caught reducing refinery capacity in order to boost prices, just to give you a taste of why they might pull a scam like Peak Oil. Notice that one of the guilty parties is Chevron, that has a whole website about dwindling oil supplies which they put up right after they bought out Unocal.

Quote:
Internal Memos Show Oil Companies Intentionally Limited Refining Capacity To Drive Up Gasoline Prices

Santa Monica, CA -- The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights (FTCR) today exposed internal oil company memos that show how the industry intentionally reduced domestic refining capacity to drive up profits. The exposure comes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina as the oil industry blames environmental regulation for limiting number of U.S. refineries.
www.consumerwatchdog.org/...e%20Prices

I got this from the Post Carbon institute, per Wintler's recommendation. D.E., wondered if you'd had a look at this kind of thing, altho they're moreso background/contextual to the pragmatics of the 'game'.

william-king.www.drexel.e...histf.html

plato.stanford.edu/entries/game-theory/

66.102.7.104/search?q=cac...tion&hl=en

www.answers.com/topic/john-von-neumann

plato.stanford.edu/entrie...r-dilemma/

www.foundationwebsite.org/canam4x.htm

Here's my argument for why Peak Oil is bogus. If you accept that notion that the Neo-Cons are the ruthless enough to pull off 9/11, and kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis to secure oil in an illegal war based on phoney evidence, why would they allow an environmental lobby to stand in their way of Alaska or creating more refineries?

All they're doing is exploiting the economic principle of supply and demand. Why isn't that obvious to the rest of the sheeple?
