A very interesting and potentially insightful comment posted at huffingtopost.com:

Quote:
No, Bob, you aren't crazy.

For those of us who have friends in DC or whom have worked in campaigns before, this is a very plausible scenario.
Cheney professes to be "above the fray" right now to stay out of presidential politics.
The primaries start to look like a McCain win.
The religious right has already promised they would do all they can to stop a McCain presidency. Pat Robertson said that himself on This Week, that he could promise to bring the entire Xian Coalition against McCain.
In desperation, as the primaries look like a McCain or Giuliani sweep, the religious right and the big money go to Cheney and plead "Mr Vice President, you have to run to continue our agenda". Faced with this, plus a takeover in the party with moderates asserting power, Cheney decides "reluctantly" to run.
As Bob said, you might think I am crazy, but I promise you, if you know even the slightest bit about politics, you will know this scenario is very much being discussed in Washington.
It will depend on who emerges as the leader in the primes if Cheney gets in. And if he does, all the money goes with him, McCain and others would not stand a chance.

And for anyone who thinks Russ Feingold is going to win ANYTHING that person needs to seriously work in politics at a volunteer level even and get a little taste of the real world. Russ, bless his heart, would be cannibalized in an instant, he will never be president. Ever. Ever.
I hope that Cheney does run because I think he would lose against a formidable Democrat, but that person would have to be a big name to beat Cheney, we can't run some little nothing like Bayh, it has to be a big name.
Regardless, trust me when I tell you all that the Cheney running scenario is very plausible.

Posted by: shanerae on February 22, 2006 at 10:07am
