200,000 years ago, Homo Erectus first trekked out of Africa across the Sinai and infested Europe, Asia and Australia, evolving to become--among others--Neanderthal, Java Man, and Homo Sapiens. 40,000 years ago, Homo Sapiens were the last remaining homonids. All other two legged beings, save primates and birds, became extinct for reasons (although speculation exists) yet to be explained.

Personally, I believe in the Taoist concept of 'Balance' in that one cannot live their life adhering strictly to extremes. Don't get me wrong. In the political arena, radicals and extremists are the protagonists who nudge those of us in the wishy-washy middle to accomplish or deter something when needed, but they do not belong in public office.

As an illustration, I figure if only liberals had existed for the last 200,000 years, the worst case scenario today would be twice as many liquor store and pharmacy burglaries, but half as much street crime as there would be no such thing as 'illegal' drugs. Such social issues would be saddled upon the taxpayer for being dealt with as the diseases they are, rather than crimes we now stigmatize them as. Further, the inveterate yet invisible Dick Gephardt would now be president, and there would be a Constitutional Amendment banning eyebrows.

If only conservatives had evolved, Neanderthals would still walk the Earth, albeit working for minimum wage and listening to Rush Limbaugh. And Arnold Schwarzenegger would be Emperor of one of the six largest nations in the world.

Come to think of it...?

Some people are like Slinkies--not really good for anything, but they still bring a smirk to your face when you topple them down a flight of stairs.
Edited by: sixtimeseven at: 8/20/05 5:21 am
