Creative Protest Brainstorm Thread

Ain’t it high time we have a testing-ground thread specifically for knocking around ideas for non-violent, creative, effective mass resistance? i mean, there’s no doubt we ARE “…a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals…”

Its gotta start somewhere, ain’t it?

My idea: an easy grassroots campaign (called ‘Choke one up for the good guys’?), advertised by word of mouth over the internet, individuals might choose to print flyers for friends and family...whatever.

Real simple.

The week of july 4th, everybody who’s heard about it mails george bush a bag of pretzels. That’s it. Just buy a bag of pretzels, put it in a box, address it to the white house, and mail it.

It would feel SO GOOD to do that, knowing a couple-hundred-thousand (a million?) other citizens were doing it together. How many people are ready and EAGER to do SOMETHING?

Let mr. wonderbrain pResident wonder what on earth it could mean, too. No letters in the boxes – nothing but pretzels. Put your name and return address or they have an excuse not to deliver. What? We’re afraid to mail the man some pretzels?

If it shuts down the mail system, so what? Nobody dies. Nobody gets arrested. And the media ‘bout has to report it.

Delicious?

I’ll edit this part out later if the thread keeps going, but want some folks here to know that my mom’s had a heart attack, and that’s where I been and where I’m gonna be. Posts I’d like to make, have to wait.

But I really wanted to kick this thread off without delay, since I’m talking about july 4th in my own suggestion, and it’s not that far away. Don’t think I’m kidding about the pretzel idea. I see serious potential in resistance like that. I still like the idea of a slow, silent march towards congress with nothing for a camera to see except a sea of advancing people with duct tape over our mouths, but the pretzels thang doesn’t involve travel…except for the pretzels. Much cheaper and easy-peasy.

Hey, mom will be ok…I think she’ll be coming home with me to stay here when she’s out of the hospital. I can hear your good wishes already, so let’s just get crackin’ on some ideas, whataya say?

My first thought was for a mass mailing of rhetorical faux-butterfly ballots with sardonic issues placed on the ballot with ambiguous punch outs. Something like "democracy (yes/no)" with a punch that is unclear. Prosperity, hope, peace vs. war, strife, poverty - Fear vs Love - etc. Maybe someone can design one up for download. I'd like to, but my creative energies don't seem to be up to it this morning. Hopefully, you get the picture. Also we could play off the "pick one" etc instructions that appear on ballots. I think the last "vote" on the ballot should be "fund to support rigged elections".

Mail Bush and every member of Congress this quote, from Justice Jackson opening statement at the Nuremberg trials, Nov. 21, 1945: (via Consortiumnews)

Quote:
“These defendants were men of a station and rank which does not soil its own hands with blood. They were men who knew how to use lesser folk as tools. We want to reach the planners and designers, the inciters and leaders without whose evil architecture the world would not have been for so long scourged with the violence and lawlessness, and wracked with the agonies and convulsions, of this terrible war. ...We have here the surviving top politicians, militarists, financiers, diplomats, administrators, and propagandists, of the Nazi movement. Who was responsible for these crimes if they were not?”

Remind them all: They are not immune from being prosecuted for war crimes.

Hey, maybe if we 'knock around some ideas' for creative resistance...we'll attract a psy-ops boy who will provoke us and get us going and then there will be a 'sting' op...

...you get the picture.

We're screwed no matter what we do.

see the link i posted above. its a clearing house for exactly these sorts of ideas.

for instance, here:

www.rtmark.com/projects/

Quote:
Invoice for Environmental HarmsSD AA
Write invoices for big companies that pollutes or destroys the living environment, and send it to them. The impact is that (at least in my country, Hungary) the invoice must be rejected in some days, or if not rejected, later can not be argued, and must be payed. So you put burden on accounting departments, and in case they miss the deadline, you can collect your money. ...

let me say this:

you do not end violence by creating more violence. violence is the easy, short-term destructive way of living but peace is the harder, more long-term and constructive way. this is why what we fight for (the latter) is so hard to defend, to implement and to have explained to the masses. violence is easy, it has a quick end and a visceral, physical expression that all can see. it is easily ushered by simple exploitation and manipulation of peoples differences..

but peaceful understanding coupled with constructive coexistence takes time. it requires the ultimate understanding of truth and requires ultimate self responsibility of each persons actions to themself which sadly most people in this country (or world) aren't willing to do or know how to do. this is why the destructive means of living have gone on for so long, because up until now we have never had a universal forum that can reach every corner of the earth and allow us to discuss our differences until now: the internet.

all us of here on this forum, i would say, are the leading edge.

we understand that things can be way better than they are today, that the possibility for change is everpresent. people of limited understanding (people who discovered that exploitation of ignorance through intimidation, or PTB if you wish, is an easy means of control) have sought for eons to suppress or deny this knowledge. i think this is the truth of existence, only until we can all understand anything is possible and that everything has some truth by its very existence will we move towards any greater goal. so with this understanding you see the true value of psychology, memes, and the evolution of consciousness. only until this becomes 'mainstream' will we ever be truly safe.

*returns to earth*

i wish i could write a book on this stuff but its so hard to stay in the 'zone'.
___________________________________________
"BUSHCO aren't incompetent...they are COMPLICIT." -Me

"Speaking the Truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act" -George Orwell
Edited by: dugoboy at: 6/6/06 10:47 am

Write your "favorite" politicians a check, send it with: DONATION clearly marked on the outside of the envelope.
This will guarantee it makes it to the top of their pile of mail.

Be sure to write VOID FOR TREASON on the face of the check and indicate the particular treasonous action you are protesting before you mail it. (such as their voting in favor of the Patriot Act, etc.)

(I saw this on a website somewhere else and thought it to be a brilliant way to get their attention.)

umpteen ways of withdrawing co-operation, messing up the system etc. e.g. phone in sick days/drive slow round the peripherique days/bombard targeted firms or utilities with calls days/dump stuff (farm manure is the french style, but extemporise) en masse outside doors of tax office or town hall/brick up doors of same/withdraw all your money from the bank days/move stuff around messily in the shopping mall or supermarket days/ go into work but don't do any days/boycott targeted products, firms, shops, resto chains, newspapers, tv chains / take numerous small ice cream weilding children into inconvenient public space such as banks, dress shops, car showrooms/insist on being paid in cash/send your payments for bills in many teensy weensy cheques or low demonination currency... list is endless. but do like the excremental flagstands and sending pres the pretzel

Not "Creative" Protest, but effective protest.

There's no single gesture that accomplishes what we want to.

The goal is to propagate whatever it takes to peel off people from supporting fascism. This means messaging at every level and interaction of society possible because our task is to counter decades of Total War.
