Mexico's drug warrior dies in air crash<br>September 23, 2005<br><br>Huixquilucan: Mexico's Public Security Minister, a key figure in the war against drug cartels, was killed with eight others when his helicopter crashed in mountains near the capital, Mexico City.<br><br>Rescue workers found the burnt wreckage of Ramón Martin Huerta's aircraft six hours after contact was lost early into a flight on Wednesday from the capital to La Palma maximum security prison, which holds several of the country's most feared drug capos.<br><br>In a televised address, President Vicente Fox vowed to push on with his fight against violent gangs running drugs into the US, which has resulted in more than 1000 deaths this year.<br><br>"Today, more than ever, I repeat the commitment of my government and of the nation to build a safe Mexico, of justice, peace and freedom," he said.<br><br>Mr Fox said the helicopter had crashed in a "terrible accident" but gave no reason for the crash.<br><br><br>from SMH, 23-9-05<br> <p></p><i></i>
