Good grief... this is nutz!

On the first clickon, the section about "What if it had been Hilary?" cracked me up.

What other kind of stuff went on in Midland in those days? How influential WAS her daddy (that would make all the difference.) What kind of family was Michael Douglass from? My guess is that Laura's family was 'way up in the town heirarchy, and the Douglasses were not... being a star football player didn't guarantee safety if he was from the "wrong side of the tracks."

It's still a lot like that in the Good Ol' Boy South. --MaryK

The article from freerepublic says Douglas' parents "lived just to the north of Midland and were involved with ranching and oil", so he probably wasn't a po' boy.

Laura Bush's 1963 Accident-killing

Postby Starman » Mon May 23, 2005 5:17 pm

This story came-out in early 2000, while Dubya was still Governor. Apparently it's being recycled for whatever after-the-fact value.

That Laura wasn't charged with manslaughter is likely due to an evident perk of her family's social class, status or 'connections' -- that I haven't seen any real information about (but then I didn't really look for it.)

Most ANYONE would or should have been cited for a traffic violation that led to an accident, esp. if it caused injury or death. As a teenager in the late 60s, early 70s, I got tickets for the most stooopid, insignificant stuff. How or why DiD Laura slide? Seems, the same kinda special attention that those like Dubya in the 'Silver Spoon' fraternity recieve that save their asses from having to suffer consequences for their actions -- or lack of appropriate actions. This is even MORE true today in that NO ONE has been held accountable for the unprecedented 'security failures' that allowed the 911 attacks to happen. The Bush Admin. rewards incompetance and malfeasance with promotions and bonuses and career advancement -- for 'going along' to get along.

I'm sure a clever parable can be made linking Laura's 'get-out-of-jail-card' and Dubya's numerous business financial bail-outs with the 'attacks' of 911.

The ordinary 'rules' of cause-and-effect and personal responsibility don't exist for these pampered elites.

It WOULD be interesting to know what political juice or economic clout Laura's family had back in 1963 Midland, tho. An off-the-wall intriguing scifi scenario might be made re: the retro-temporal 'hit' via 'accident' by Laura to eliminate the complication of Laura marrying the wrong guy and messing-up the Bush 43 Dynastical Imperium plans, hmmmm?

Starman

Come on, it was probably her first big test, which she passed with flying colors. Probably 'earned' a promotion. I mean, this sure seems to match a MO I've heard of.

Jeez, could you all rein it in? Or, failing that, how about doing some elementary fact-checking?

She was a teenage girl who ran a stop sign, and killed friend of hers, who was riding in the same car. www.snopes.com/politics/bush/laura.asp

By the way, I haven't found any evidence for an "elite" background for Laura Welch Bush. Her father was a building contractor and a loan officer in Midland, Texas.

Friends don't let friends freep out...

robertreed,
And you're sounding like you didn't read the article you yourself quote: "She was a teenage girl who ran a stop sign, and killed (a) friend of hers, who was riding in the same car. www.snopes.com/politics/bush/laura.asp".

The driver of the other car, her supposed boyfriend, was the fatality. The other girl in Laura's car and Laura were taken to the hospital.

Yeah, I watched a tv program showing the intersection that Laura ran the stop sign at, AFTER her EX-Boyfriend had dumped her.

Try to imagine the odds she would hit him at this intersection, running a STOP sign, and killing HIM.

I mean, she wasn't aware of the stop sign outside their school? How fast do you have to be driving, at an intersection, to kill someone young and in good physical shape?

Think about it.

I can't place blame, I wasn't there. She may have been "showing off" and it was an real accident.

Circumstances of the "accident" are certainly open to speculation, though.

btw, did anyone else find it *odd* the White House sent Laura out to the Temple Mount, with what certainly looked like minimum security??

Maybe she should stick to "knock knock" jokes. Looks to me like someone tried to get even.

Peter, you're right. The victim of the accident was riding in the other car.

Hey, I just woke up...

In defense of Snopes.com- in terms of obtaining references, it's a place to start. And they usually provide the outline for the generally argued antithesis forany given conspiracy hypothesis, which I find helpful. .

gwbushcheerleader,
You ask,
"btw, did anyone else find it *odd* the White House sent Laura out to the Temple Mount, with what certainly looked like minimum security??"

The folks who subscribe to the LIHOP theory of 9/11 would say it was standard operating procedure. LIHOP?--Let it happen on purpose. Googlesearch has 3,690 hits on LIHOP, as opposed to 2,560 hits for MIHOP.

fwiw...

Postby robertdreed » Tue May 24, 2005 1:38 am

I still buy into the "inattentive and inexperienced driver" explanation. That's one reason why when I drive, I pay more attention to what the other cars are doing than to traffic signs and signals- i.e., "You're going to stop? Prove it."

In particular, there's something about wide, flat, sparsely trafficked rural areas that invites people to act like they own the road.

Serious question, not trying to freep or whatever. But, I didn't know that Snopes wasn't a reliable source. I always thought it was. What's the scoop?

robertreed,

Good on ya for fessin' up that you didn't read the article. Really.

This site you find helpful to debunk conspiracy theories...

Do me a favor, friend.

Go to it, and see what the *debunking* is of the fact that at the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, the three ships used were named "Barbara", "Houston" and "Zapata".

And since George H. W. Bush's oil company, Zapata Oil, based in Houston, also lent money to one John Hinkley Sr.'s failing oil company back in the early 60's, you could ask his wife, "Barbara", if she recalls that loan?

The oil company, a CIA front? Money laundering? (or was that Silverado Savings, Neil Bush, I am confusing it with? No, it's both!)

Add to the fact that John Hinkley Sr. went on to head a "Christian" charity group, that traveled world wide "do-gooding", yet with allegations the charity was a CIA front.

Oh, and one of the fellas that joined John Hinkley Jr. at one of these charity organizations camps?

Mark David Chapman.

Both found with "Catcher in the Rye" books after the fact.

And, since Kennedy didn't play along with Bush, and his Mafia allies invading Cuba, and I see a photo of now CIA director Goss (appointed by Junior), in an early 1963 photograph with some of the Cuban anti-Castro Miami bunch, with Barry Seal and other CIA alleged hitmen, "Conspiracy Theory" is not the proper term. Conspiracy FACT would apply: it is two people or more planning something. Just two makes a "conspiracy" robertreed.

Please, debunk what I just said.

I'd feel better thinking my country hasn't been hijacked by a criminal organization.

I really would.

And the fact that Neil Bush was going to have dinner with Hinkley's brother the same day John tried to kill Reagan?

What did Neil say? Something to the effect " I would need to see a photo of him to see if I recognize him."

Indeed? Someone whose family and yours has been tight for over 20 years at that time? Where you had visited as a child, and ate dinner with them?

And you don't "know" if you know him??

Sometimes, rr, it's just better to shut the f up.

www.sumeria.net/politics/kennedy.html
