He was shot dead by plain-clothed anti-terror police after being mistaken for a suicide bomber.<br><br>Mr de Menezes was shot eight times - seven of the bullets direct to the head - after police followed him from a block of flats in Tulse Hill, south London, which had been under surveillance.<br><br>Following the shooting, Mr de Menezes' parents, Matuzinhos Otone Da Silva and Maria Otone de Menezes, flew into Britain from Rio to visit the scene of their son's death, and launch the Justice for Jean campaign to address "unanswered questions".<br><br>Mrs Otone de Menezes told reporters: "We are searching for justice."<br><br>Through an interpreter, she added: "I want the police to be punished."<br><br>An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation into the death was launched and the family met with top officials in an attempt to find out why the killing happened.<br><br>Mr de Menezes' cousin, Alessandro Pereira said the police officers responsible for the death "must face justice".<br><br>"I have always believed that those who break the law should be punished and some people have broken the law", said Mr Pereira.<hr></blockquote><!--EZCODE QUOTE END--><br><!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/uklatest/story/0,1271,-5530364,00.html">www.guardian.co.uk/uklate...64,00.html</a><!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br><br>Funny thing: The more the public knows the facts of the matter, the longer drawn out the "inquiry".<br> <p></p><i></i>
