Pope Benedict: Taking a Goose-Step Backward

Postby Col Quisp » Sat Oct 01, 2005 11:06 am

Within the next few weeks, the Pope is expected to issue an edict banning homosexuals from seminaries. (Interestingly, there are estimates that between 25-50% of US priests are homosexual.)

Is this supposed to be his solution to rooting out pedophilia?

Quote:

Statistically, most sexual predators and child molesters are, in fact, straight men. it's not like turning away 25-50% of wanna-be priests is going to make maintaining the church any easier...in the states they're already having trouble finding enough young blood to keep the church from evaporating, this should cement that trend but good...maybe they can turn away those sinister left-handers and the brown-eyed too.

No kidding on that last point! So much for acceptance and tolerance...

This has truly confused me. In my non-American life, it is a well accepted traditional fact that if a young man has no interest in girls, the church is pretty much his only option.
You can't run a farm without children.

With the recent coming of modern jobs, there are more options.. but in a strict catholic culture it's still more acceptable to go into the priesthood. Can't wait to see how many local parishes ..um, go out of business.
