By God, I'll Get you a Palestinian State!

Nothing new, but kinda weird and strange:
www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice...bush.shtml

Quote:
Nabil Shaath says: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, "George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan." And I did, and then God would tell me, "George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …" And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, "Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East." And by God I'm gonna do it.'"

MK victims hear voices that are beamed at them-- whose voice is Boosh hearing?

"George, you may go to the bathroom now."
"George, go get me some new Ferragamos."

Re: Dobson privy to Rove's Miers skivy

Postby Gouda » Thu Oct 06, 2005 8:05 pm

I was going to post a separate item on James C. Dobson's recent voices, but it should fit here.
On this Miers thing, he has heard 2 voices (well, almost 2): one being Karl Roverer's. He is waiting to hear from you know Who as the second.

1.) From the NYT: "Conservatives Are Wary Over President's Selection", By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK, October 4, 2005:

"...Karl Rove, the president's top political adviser, started calling influential social conservatives to reassure them about the pick even before it was announced. He called James C. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, over the weekend, and Richard Land, a top public policy official of the Southern Baptist Convention on Monday morning, said several people briefed on the calls...

By day's end, Mr. Dobson, one of the most influential evangelical conservatives, welcomed the nomination. "Some of what I know I am not at liberty to talk about," he said in an interview, explaining his decision to speak out in support of Ms. Miers. He declined to discuss his conversations with the White House."

2.) "Armando", a Kos blogger writes this today (friend of a friend thing, I know, but...) www.dailykos.com/storyonl...153716/970

"Seemingly backing off statements of unconditioned and irrevocable support for the nomination of Harriet Miers, Dobson is now 'waiting for a sign from God.' A blogger e-mails this recounting of Dobson's radio show from a friend of his:

Dobson dedicated his entire half-hour radio show to the Miers nomination today. Below is my short write-up of what he had to say:

Quote:
He went on the claim that "I'm getting calls from members of Congress saying 'tell us your take on this, we're not sure what we think of Harriet Miers.'" He then admitted "It was leaked to the media that I've had conversations with Karl Rove and the White House, which is true."

He said "There is so much in the balance [with this nominee], there is no way to put it into words . . . Because of that, Dobson is begging the Lord: "If this is not the person you want on that Supreme Court, all you have to do is tell me so, and do it through any means you want to."

He finally then discussed why he is supporting Miers, saying "I can't reveal it all, because I do know things that I'm privy to that I can't describe, because of confidentiality." He then states that Miers "is a deeply committed Christian" and that people who know her have all told him that "she will not be a disappointment."

"I believe in trusting this president and this time because of the stand that he has taken and the way he has implemented it consistently for four and a half years. When you put that with all the other information that I have been able to gather - and you'll have to trust me on this one - when you know some of the things that I know, that I probably shouldn't know, that take me in this direction, you will understand why I have said, with fear and trepidation, why I have said why I believe that Harriet Miers will be a good justice."

The photo with the story...

Postby banned » Thu Oct 06, 2005 10:30 pm

...is hilarious. If you're old enough to remember Red Buttons dancing around doing his ""Ho! Ho!... Hee! Hee!... Ha! Ha!... Strange things are happening" song with his hand to his ear, it's especially funny. Well, not chuckle-funny, creepy-funny.

news.yahoo.com/photo/0510...wl_uk_afp/
051006214432_qzuc6ycq_photo0&g=events/iraq/
082701iraqplane;_ylt=AoOiV7i315ziU4wcH2ZF57rZa7gF;_ylu
=X3oDMTA3bGk2OHYzBHNlYwN0bXA-

Rove and Dobson

Postby GDN01 » Thu Oct 06, 2005 11:24 pm

Rove probably assured Dobson that Meiers has been bought and paid for.

Someone who has never been a judge nominated to the Supreme Court? There is something dirty about this whole thing.

Yeah, sure, she's the best person W could think of for the job. that's why he kept her chained to a desk all those years instead of appointing her as a federal judge to groom her for the SCOTUS. She's in the best position to uphold her master's dirty tricks. She'll keep her thin lips shut.

Trust him? He "knows her heart." With the lowest ratings in history, his buddies are not afraid of turning on him now. Pat Buchanan is railing against Harriet. She'll never make it. It's a desperate last ditch effort to save himself from being sacrificed. He spoke of more sacrifices needed in the war on terra today. Was he speaking of himself? That speech was stupefying. It was as if he were talking about himself.

Arghhh.

info from truthout

Postby a non » Fri Oct 07, 2005 12:54 am

probably many will know this, but i heard radio talk re a piece in truthout.org, by the v.p. natl lawyers guild: in Texas, there was scandal brewing over the state lottery. Bush appointed her to clean it up. upshotwas, she fired the whistleblower & I think protected the exec who, just by the way, got Bush his Natl Guard sinecure, AND was one of those who bilked us all in the Savings & Loan scam ( along with Neil Bush, and wasnt that exactly about the time that Poppy invaded . . . Iraq!) Supposedly she also "pitbulled" Bush's safety about the natl guard during that story, and kept John what's his face's papers secret from the senate panel for his supreme court hearings, and as 2nd in command under Alberto Gonzales would have had a hand in fixing the torture thing - you know, when they told the world that torture is OK & disappearing people is Ok etc. She thinks he is the most brilliant man . . . ! This is all according to the piece in truthout.org

BBC Cowed

Postby antiaristo » Fri Oct 07, 2005 6:28 pm

I fear Blair's gang are winning their battle to "corporatise" BBC News. Mark Thompson announces swingeing cuts, then lets it float. This is the result.

Quote:
3pm
BBC shies away from Bush story

Tara Conlan
Friday October 7, 2005

BBC programme editors turned lukewarm on a claim by a BBC2 programme that George Bush believed God told him to invade Iraq and Afghanistan after a strong denial by the White House.

Just 24 hours after accusations that the corporation's news coverage was backing away from risk-taking, some of the BBC's key outlets decided not to run an exclusive story unearthed by BBC2 about the US president.

It was all the more unusual as yesterday morning the corporation sent out a press release trumpeting the exclusive in BBC2's forthcoming "major three-part" series called Israel and the Arabs: Elusive Peace.

In the programme, Palestinian minister Nabil Shaath said Mr Bush had told them during a meeting in June 2003 that God had given him a mission to invade Iraq and Afghanistan and also to create a Palestinian state.

Abu Mazen, another minister attending same meeting, said Mr Bush had told him: I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state."

As the BBC release was embargoed until 10.30pm yesterday, it had been expected the story was being saved for the corporation to break and would first appear on BBC2's Newsnight.

Yesterday afternoon, as newspapers and other agencies began inquiring into the story, the White House refused to comment. But later in the day a spokesman, Scott McClellan, said Mr Bush had "never made such comments."

However, Mr McClellan admitted he had not been at the June 2003 meeting referred to in the BBC2 programme.

Newsnight decided not to run the story. The official reason given was that the running order was packed and included another story about Mr Bush.

Subsequently, the Today programme also decided not to cover it - except in its newspaper round-up.

However, after it appeared in most of the national newspapers, BBC Breakfast featured an item, while Radio 1, 5 Live, News 24 and BBC online also ran it.

But the BBC News website's coverage was distinctly lukewarm - running the story under the headline "White House denies Bush God claim", rather than the press release's headline of "God told me to invade Iraq, Bush tells Palestinian ministers".

One BBC source said: "The denial by the White House put some programme editors off. It probably played a big part in some of their decisions not to run the story."

The lukewarm response by other BBC outlets to a BBC News exclusive in the wake of a denial by the US government is likely to dismay the new head of television news, Peter Horrocks.

Just a few days ago he urged staff not to be afraid of being first with stories, as long as they were factually accurate*.

It is perhaps inevitable that suspicions may be raised about any cautious reception to BBC stories that do not present Mr Bush in the best light following Rupert Murdoch's comments that Tony Blair had told him BBC World's coverage of Hurricane Katrina was "just full of hate for America and gloating about our troubles".

media.guardian.co.uk/site...40,00.html

*One of the many disservices performed by Lord Hutton was his definition of "factually accurate" news stories. Under this guideline the White House denial, even coming from someone not present, would spike the story.
