Dick doth provide more than a few trinkets of relevance to the weirdness studied in this forum:

1). Dick was got to by Maitreya and his agents? See last page, last panel:

www.philipkdickfans.com/w...eirdo8.htm

So the prophet Elijah enters Dick's world after his "religious experience" with the flaming fish, taking Dick in an altered-state to the middle east, murmuring to him in a feminine voice that "Christ" has returned and is ready to save us from the new roman persecutors; there is also a beheading theme ("I was in a roman dungeon, and they came and cut off my head, took a wire and garroted me..."); and then at his death, he tapped the Maitreya as the likely candidate for the returned Christ.

2). Re: Flow my Tears (on my 'to read' list), Dick describes this novel as his remembrance of a horrid police state which once existed, a reality/universe which is running in parallel with with our own sensed reality, ever-threatening to bleed over, take over again. He saw himself as one of the "secret Christians" who helped overthrow that state.

He discusses all this in a speech delivered at the second Festival International de la Science-Fiction de Metz, France, in September 1977:

"If You Find This World Bad, You Should See Some of the Others"
www.greylodge.org/occultr..._world.htm

Dick speaks of a Programmer who

Quote:
First and foremost... controls the objects, processes, and events in our space-time world...I have spoken of myself as a reprogrammed variable, and I have spoken of him as the Programmer and Reprogrammer. The buzzing thing again...have you ever been in a room full of charismatic christians all chanting/speaking in "tongues" together? "Tongues of fire" alight gently above the heads of those so gifted by the holy spirit. It is hypnotic - the collective sound of their voices creates this gentle, rythmic, undulating hummmmm....

Dick:

Quote:
Why has he [The Programmer] cloaked himself as a plurality of unrelated objects and his movements as a plurality of chance processes? All the changes, all the permutations of reality that we see are expressions of the purposeful growing and unfolding of this single entelechy; it is a plant, a flower, an opening rose. It is a humming hive of bees. It is music, a kind of singing.

Edited by: Gouda at: 2/16/06 6:01 am
