Iraq's Green Republic: Model City Off Limits to Citizens

I know this shouldn't surprise me, it's just SO typical of the Elite Occupier Syndrome the US Military and Corporate toadies under Bush Inc. 'leadership' has elevated to a new oxygen-deprived level of arrogant self-righteous vanity.

While arbitrary detentions and mass-sweeps and prison torture and chronic water-and-electricity shut-offs, potholed-streets and crumbling bomb-blasted buildings and concrete road-blocs and traffic-jams and exorbitant prices and summer-heat and choking dust-storms and kidnappings and assassinations of religious leaders and other assorted insults and outrages of a city and a nation's peoples withering in a state of virtual locked-down seige under the malevelant distrustful gaze and ready guns of an unwanted, uninvited, unrespected foreign army of occupation becomes ever-more intolerable and routine, the displaced territory which is the US-mission Green Zone prospers and blooms behind blast-doors and ever-rising walls, closing-off the exclusive city-within-a-city with its modern marvels and splendors from the very people US forces allegedly came to liberate from repression and broken dreams --

Is the irony and hypocrisy of such an ostentatious display of privelege and contemptuous, self-serving double-standards beyond the ken of the current crop of Bush ass-kissing loyalists and self-absorbed career Generals and assorted 'Yessuh!' self-important officials and sundry hangers-ons? Has the cult of paying court to Imperial hubris become such a full-time duty that there isn't ANYWHERE a voice of reason to point out the incredible offense that such a spectacle must cause to ordinary Iraqis, contemplating how much they've suffered and lost by being the unwitting victims of more than 30 years of US interference, intransigence, manipulation, intrigue, coercion, blackmail, conquest, blockade, invasion and now occupation.

How can the Bush gang bunch, their cronies and military-intelligence toadies and sold-out puppets, ANYBODY seriously think the Iraqi people will ever accept the authority of US-imposed decree, especially when they're so dramatically reminded of the US's contempt for them and apparant unconcern for the degradation of their lives caused by the US's illegal invasion and ongoing occupation? Isn't this the same kind of fairyland wishful thinking that caused America to sacrifice untold many thousands more of indentured soldiers in Vietnam when the folly of that pipedream was evident to almost everybody but those at the top of the grand murderous-charade, pressed into propping-up the unsustainable dreams of idiots for the glory of Empire.

God-DAMN the criminal war-thugs.

This recent posting is a heads-up message of America's inevitable failure and decline, a message that it's 'leaders' are too stupid to understand and too blind to see and too puffed-up with pride to hear. What a fuckin' shame ...

Starman
***
--excerpt--

The Green Zone, he told us, is a city in itself. He came back awed, and more than a little bit upset. He talked of designs and plans being made for everything from the future US Embassy and the housing complex that will surround it, to restaurants, shops, fitness centers, gasoline stations, constant electricity and water- a virtual country inside of a country with its own rules, regulations and government. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Republic of the Green Zone, also known as the Green Republic.

"The Americans won't be out in less than ten years." Is how the argument often begins with the friend who has entered the Green Republic. "How can you say that?" Is usually my answer- and I begin to throw around numbers- 2007, 2008 maximum Could they possibly want to be here longer? Can they afford to be here longer? At this, T. shakes his head- if you could see the bases they are planning to build- if you could see what already has been built- you'd know that they are going to be here for quite a while.

The Green Zone is a source of consternation and aggravation for the typical Iraqi. It makes us anxious because it symbolises the heart of the occupation and if fortifications and barricades are any indicator- the occupation is going to be here for a long time. It is a provocation because no matter how anyone tries to explain or justify it, it is like a slap in the face. It tells us that while we are citizens in our own country, our comings and goings are restricted because portions of the country no longer belong to its people. They belong to the people living in the Green Republic.

riverbendblog.blogspot.com/archives/
2005_06_01_riverbendblog_archive.html
