Where's Abu Ghraib?!

I don't want to sound sadistic, like I can't wait to see the new pics from Abu Ghraib (don't want to see them; rather I lived in a world where such nonsense wasn't so egregiously documented), but where the hell are they? <br><br>I've been following this particular story because I think when those photos are released, there's going to be a new level of awakening among Americans. Fewer will be able to ignore the blatant deception and depravity of our overlords.<br><br>Rubbish the excuse that the pictures will inflame the Muslim world. The Muslim world <!--EZCODE BOLD START--><strong>is</strong><!--EZCODE BOLD END--> inflamed. That's what aiming them away from heaven and burning them, and then boasting about it with a megaphone will do. And that's just this week's shining example of the Jutstice Department's own comrades defeating its position before the court.<br><br>...So, I have been watching, and counting. Judge Hellerstein's decision held that, if appealed, it must be appealed within twenty days. <br><br>Today is day twenty-two. <br><br>This has started being about how such an exposed story can stay so hidden. Why can I find absolutely no reports updating this story? None!? Someone must be able to tell whether an appeal has been filed, but no one has. <br><br>Its eerie, like whomever is trying to time perfectly this media's eventual release. They know the impact will be huge. I don't trust it one bit. <br><br>How does a story this huge, on a global scale even, just disappear? <br><br>We always see stories about how China censors its media and internet. We see rails against companies like Google and Microsoft for doing business behind China's Iron Curtain. I've been wondering the same thing myself. Everyone's talking about Plame and Delay, but this HUGE story has just disappeared completely. <br><br>I guess the best thing to do is to write to any decent journalists you know (e.g. Seymour Hersh) and ask them what the hell's going on. <p></p><i></i>

With Tom Delay's indictment, the annihilation of more Iraq civilians, the US troop body count hitting 2000 any minute, the new Downing Street Memo, Fitzgerald's indictments, Judy Miller post-jail spinning....<br><br>They are probably looking for a space between the raindrops to drop the bomb so it isn't a binary agent with another disaster.<br><br>Remember that CBS delayed release of the first Abu Ghraib batch so it wouldn't coincide with the first annihilation of Fallujah. They staggered the two disasters by almost two weeks so they could manage each one. <br><br>I'm sure this is what's happening now. <p></p><i></i>

I have read the original order to confirm that it is indeed twenty consecutive days (as opposed to business days)...<br><br>I have checked the United States District Court Southern District of NY web site for updates (they have previous briefs, orders, etc posted) nothing there...<br><br>I have thoroughly checked the ACLU's web site for updates...nothing there either...<br><br>I have checked the 2nd District Court of Appeals web site...nothing there either...<br><br>So....<br><br>Did everyone forget about it? If the DOJ didn't appeal, I would suspect that the ACLU would file motions to enforce, contempt, etc.<br><br> <p></p><i></i>

I checked the ACLU site too. There was no mention of Abu Ghraib since the day of Hellerstein's decision. I stopped short of calling them Friday; I'll try to call them Monday though.<br><br>Was Judicial Watch also involved in the case? <p></p><i></i>

I just spoke with Amrit Singh, one of the ACLU's attorneys on the FOIA-Abu Ghraib case. She informed me that DOD had filed a motion to stay, which expires Wednesday. She declined to guess the Pentagon's next move, and I'm not going to call them to find out. I'm sure I'd just get the runaround.<br><br>Also, Ms. Singh says this case has only been heard once, which surprised me, because I thought this case had been appealed at least once already.
