Who actually DID die on 9-11?

From Arizona Indymedia, where I found a story about researching the names of those listed as died at the WTC:

Quote:
Now if you enter David Seima Aoyama’s name in the social security death index you get “no data found”- as of this writing October 19 2005: ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.c...i/ssdi.cgi That is to say 4 years after 911 " Aoyama" is not on record as having died on 911. That is to say 4 years after 911 " Aoyama" is not on record as having died on 911. That is to say 4 years after 911 " Aoyama" is not on record as having died on 911. Furthermore I do not know if "Aoyama" reportedly a Japanese who came to the US in 1977 was a US citizen or not. And I gather the SSDI only records deaths of US citizens with social security numbers. But on the other hand the fact that the SSDI does not record "Aoyama"’s death does not support his dying on 911 either.

The whole article is at arizona.indymedia.org/news/2005/10/31763.php

It's always interesting. --MaryK

...and thought it was interesting; however, not everyone who dies ends up on the SSDI. Ancestry.com, a genealogy site where you can search it, says on their FAQ:

www.ancestry.com/search/r...vital/ssdi
/faq.htm?rc=locale%7E&us=0#looking

"It is not an index to all deceased individuals who have held Social Security Numbers. It is not a database of all deceased individuals who have received Social Security Benefits, or whose families have received survivor benefits."

Here is the blurb on the search page:

The Death Master File (DMF) from the Social Security Administration (SSA) currently contains over 76 million records. The current update reflects the latest information provided by the SSA as of September 2005. The file is created from internal SSA records of deceased persons possessing social security numbers and whose deaths were reported to the SSA. Often this was done in connection with filing for death benefits by a family member, an attorney, a mortuary, etc. Each update of the DMF includes corrections to old data as well as additional names. [NOTE: If someone is missing from the list, it may be that the benefit was never requested, an error was made on the form requesting the benefit, or an error was made when entering the information into the SSDI.]

Extended Description:

This file includes the following information on each decedent, if the data is available to the SSA:

* Last name
* First name
* Social Security Number
* State issued
* Birth date
* Death date
* Last residence
* Lump sum payment

The absence of a particular person in the SSDI is not proof this person is alive. Additionally, there is a possibility that incorrect records of death have been entered on the DMF. The Social Security Administration does not guarantee the accuracy of the file.

www.ancestry.com/search/d...?dbid=3693
