Iridium cell-phone satellites vulnerable to Osama

Postby Starman » Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:28 pm

Oooh -- that IS precious:

From the article cited:

"U.S. military commanders use Iridium satellite phones to call out from the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan (as well as the myriad of places the U.S. military says they're not). These 66 satellites zipping around the earth every 100 minutes in a relatively low orbit of 775 kilometres were originally a worldwide cellphone network owned by Motorola. Launched in 1998, Iridium promptly went bankrupt for lack of subscribers. The U.S. Department of Defence is now its heavily dependent prime user, and an Iridium failure would confound troops overseas."

Jeez, these sats are only 500 miles up? Well-within range of another commandeered commercial airliner, right? (I know -- a commercial plane probably can't fly higher than about 10 miles, about 50,000 ft -- if that.)

These sats are modestly-shielded against EMP effects from solar-storms and nuclear-blasts. Some websites claim Russia has advanced satellite-killer weapons-platforms in orbit -- which I discount without credible documentation/sources. But couldn't the military just shut-off this or any other cucial satellites, or even just claim they'd been 'knocked-out' by a devious Al Qaeda weapon?

The website IS a joke -- it doesn't even propose HOW Osama or Al Qaeda could take such a system out.

Do the twits who crank this stuff out REALLY believe it themselves? I shudder to think how dumb people would have to be to actually take this specious stuff seriously.
Starman

Starman

PT Barnam has NOTHING on the NATIONAL POST.

Either the Natuibak Postr subscriptions are deep in the summer doldrums or they're playing kissy @$$ to the psy-ops rubber room boyz.

I'm sure the boys in hubrisland think NOBODY would even guess the OBL once owned Iridium...bet 'Dawn' the writer of the report is a summer practicum student or maybe it's just a name pulled out of a hat.

The scary part of the story is it has all the elements of a neoCon false flag.

1) Totally unbelievable to the rational thinkers out there

2) A behind-the-scenes money maker for wall street and insurance 'risk' takers.

3) Good excuse to target several neoCon 'enemies' i.e., 'muslims', 'bloggers'....you can bet the Internet will go down just when the Indictments against the Bushie Cabal come down.

4) Gets rid of series of space junk on the public purse.

5) Boon for 'Star Wars' war-mongers and military pork barrel companies....'Of course, if we had 'Star Wars' we could have prevented all the satellites from going down at the same time.

6) Again....big distraction likely being saved for just when the Fitzgerald indictments agains the Bush Cabal come down.

They're sure getting a lot of mileage out of Osama

Postby psyop samurai » Mon Aug 22, 2005 11:18 pm

Does this mean the alien threat's a no-go?

LOL - Osama in space.

But seriously, um, (putting on tinfoil hat), this is stranger than fiction. And the Scottsdale nexus - well, let's just say there's a big old rabbit hole in Scottsdale. There may be more to this than its apparent absurdity.

Iridiu

Postby glubglubglub » Wed Aug 24, 2005 12:13 pm

psyop samurai: as a former local you want to do a thread/data dump about Scottsdale's rabbit hole? As a former resident I always love hearing dirt about my old stomping grounds.

As for Iridium: pretty much every major investor in that thing got hosed, big time, and the insurance angle is therefore very believable. I wonder how much damage you could do if you dropped a few satellites into a downtown somewhere?
