Whatever Happened With Vreeland?

Postby JD » Sun Jun 25, 2006 1:08 am

Jeff, do you know where the Vreeland story went?

Anyone know of a good summary of the whole matter? (NOT Ruppertified)

As I recall; he'd indicated that someone who recently died was actually murdered by poison. This in fact turned out to be the case. Vreeland got at minimum partical credibility when I found that out.

He was absolutely right about Canadian diplomant Marc Bastien. Not just that he'd been murdered, but that he'd been poisoned.

My lawyer friend, Paul Slansky, called the Pentagon in open court to confirm his rank and service, which the Pentagon had previously denied, by searching archived records that hadn't been purged post-9/11. (The prosecution countered that by suggesting Vreeland could have hacked into the Pentagon database from his jail cell.)

He was arrested in the midwest just before the 2004 election, alledging a nuclear 9/11 was imminent, and is still in custody on numerous charges. Including at least one involving child prostitution. (Interesting, as Vreeland had previously confided to at least a few people that as a boy he was involved in "something like" the Franklin Cover-Up.)

I asked Paul a couple of weeks ago if he'd heard more. Not much, though Vreeland has been in touch.

A couple articles from back when Vreeland was arrested in 2004 which I saved on my computer.

the first one:

by Ray Baltes of the Hampton Chronicle,
October 27, 2004.

Arrest stops man wanted on 16 warrants
An alleged con artist who claims to have information about terrorist cells in the United States was arrested last week in Iowa.

Delmart Vreeland, 38, was arrested Wednesday along Interstate Highway 35 after trying to use a flagged credit card to buy gas.

Franklin County Chief Deputy Ken Lubkeman said Vreeland was wanted on 16 warrants from several states and Canada, on charges ranging from child prostitution and arson to identity theft and fraud.

Vreeland is somewhat of an Internet celebrity; his name commonly appears on message boards used by government conspiracy theorists. News of his arrest sparked discussion last week.

Lubkeman said Vreeland was very believable, but other officials warned that he's a phony.

"He is an excellent con artist, one of the best I've ever seen," said Detective Bruce Lidgard of the sheriff's office in
Oakland County, Mich.

Authorities have 22 names, very little else on fugitive
A tip from a credit card company Wednesday, Oct. 20, led to the arrest of a man wanted in numerous states and Canada by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.
According to Sheriff's Deputy Ken Lubkeman, "A Shell credit card had been used at Dudley's Corner, and when it was electronically run through, it had been flagged that there was a problem with the card."
The credit card company phoned the Franklin County Sheriff's Department to report the use of the card.
Lubkeman said deputies Stephen Bardole and Adam Blau were dispatched to investigate the matter, and while they were on the road, a sheriff's department in Colorado "called us and told us the person associated with that card was wanted in their state."
Bardole and Blau located the white, full-size van at around the 170 mile marker on I-35, and when they questioned the subject, he gave them several different names and birth dates.
The subject, identified at Clayton Steeves, was found to have 16 warrants out of several states, including Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, and Florida. In addition, he was also wanted by the FBI and the New York Police Department. The warrants included charges such as flight to avoid prosecution, forgery, felony credit card, arson, and child prostitution.
Steeves is being held at the Hardin County Jail, in Eldora, on charges of being a fugitive from justice, and providing false information to a peace officer.
On Monday morning, Oct. 25, the Chronicle received a tip from a caller in Canada that Steeves was also known as Delmart Vreeland, and was somewhat of a celebrity in that country.
An Internet search of the name resulted in no less than 909 matches. Vreeland has gained notoriety in Canada for claiming to have predicted the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and for claiming to be a Naval Intelligence operative.
Within days, news of Vreeland's arrest by Franklin County authorities filtered up to Canada, and a reporter from the Toronto Star called the sheriff's department and interviewed Deputy Lubkeman for a story that appeared in the Star's Sunday, Oct. 24, edition.
Lubkeman told the Chronicle that Vreeland will be held while the investigation continues.
The sheriff's department was assisted in the investigation by the Hampton Police Department, the Sheffield Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.

and then there's this one

'Most Wanted' felon captured
Web-posted Oct 22, 2004
Career criminal faces charges in Michigan, several other states
By KORIE WILKINS
Of The Daily Oakland Press
A career criminal with Michigan roots who claimed he knew about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and tried to warn the government has been captured by Iowa authorities.
Delmart Vreeland, 38, of Rochester Hills, faces numerous charges in Oakland County and in a number of communities in several states and in Canada.
He was captured Wednesday in Iowa while driving on I-35 in Franklin County. He reportedly stopped to refuel at a gas station, using a credit card that had an alert placed on it by authorities in Colorado - where he is wanted on child prostitution charges.
"Everyone seems to want a piece of Mr. Vreeland," said Franklin County Chief Deputy Ken Lubkeman. "People are doing handstands because he's been picked up."
Franklin County Sheriff's Department deputies nabbed Vreeland, who used to live in Rochester Hills and worked at a company that refurbished computers in Troy, on I-35 shortly after he left the gas station. He went peacefully with deputies and is being held without bond.
So far, seven jurisdictions have contacted Iowa authorities. Michigan and Colorado are working to extradite him so he can face charges ranging from fraud, theft, child prostitution and arson.
"I think he's going to be very busy for the foreseeable future answering for his behavior," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "He's been wanted here for some time."
Bouchard said Vreeland is wanted by eight Michigan jurisdictions mostly for crimes like fraud and burglary. Vreeland, who was on Oakland County's Most Wanted list, ran an identity theft ring in the Detroit area for a few years and has felony convictions for breaking and entering and receiving stolen property. Several local police departments - including Birmingham, Troy and Rochester - are interested in Vreeland.
Lubkeman said Vreeland will have a bond reduction hearing in 10 days. Then, officials will decide where he will be extradited first to face charges. He said Vreeland will be shuffled from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
In addition to Michigan, Florida, Colorado, Virginia, Canada and New York all want a piece of Vreeland, Lubkeman said.
"He's not going anywhere," Lubkeman said.
In addition to the various felony charges Vreeland - a Michigan native - is facing, he is also a bit of a folk hero among conspiracy theorists who believe he is a spy who knew about the terrorist attacks. He claimed shortly after the terrorist attacks that he was a spy for the Office of Naval Intelligence and wrote a note that foreshadowed the events of Sept. 11, 2001, while in prison.
Lubkeman said he's spoken to government officials who deny that Vreeland ever served.
Lubkeman said Vreeland has a court-appointed attorney from Colorado, but he declined to release the name. He said Vreeland has spoken to an attorney.
"We're glad he's in custody," Bouchard said.
