didn't know of this little film until jeff's recent post (and sorry if this was the subject of a previous thread that i missed...)

maybe i should wait until i have watched the entire thing, but after about three attempts i am about a third of the way through, and find myself at this point more interested in any thoughts from fellow RI'ers than the film itself.

maybe one of the reasons it is hard for me to get all the way through is that i recognize a lot of myself in the character, as an attempt to depict some of the severe alienation one feels when one realizes that what one has been told and taken for granted is not true, and that there are those who appear to be capable of truly horrific acts and then lie about them. i suppose this could be a kind of "post-traumatic stress disorder" but i am not a big fan of that syndrome and would not welcome the easy application of that diagnosis. thanks to jeff and others here, the information contained in the film is for the most part not new to me.

importantly, though, this guy is nothing like me in that i do not suffer from a concocted multiple personality disorder and do not routinely hallucinate, and i am more or less getting on with my life...

what concerns me at this point is that this seems to me another project that will reinforce convictions in those that have already given up on the "official version of events" of 9/11, but that it will convince no one who is still a believer of that official story. and worse, that it produces a kind of laughable caricature of us "conspiracy" nuts. those towing the party line can now add "chain-smokin', hallucinatin', head-shavin', psychotic loner-type, conspiracy-nut..." to that stupid "volvo-drivin, latte-sippin'...." etc liberal elitist crap.

again, i'm not through watching this thing, but at this point i am wondering if morgan freeman is going to show up at the end and put the cuffs on our poor hero and this guy who supposedly has grasped the "truth" about 9/11 is gonna end up in a straight jacket at a funny farm, which of course fits the narrative the fox-news crowd has in store for us perfectly.

i guess my question is, does this kind of thing hurt us more than it helps?

here is the link: who killed john o'neill?

Edited by: Moddey Screbbagh at: 8/6/06 12:40 pm
