A friend who has lived in Paris for the last ten years said that somewhere around the middle of July Le Monde ran headlines stating that 911 was an inside job. Has anyone else heard of this? If this is a repeat, sorry. I haven't been able to use the computer much so I'm out of the loop... <p></p><i></i>

I did some searching in Le Monde and Libération archives going back 3 months but didn't find anything clearly incriminatory re 9.11. Lots of stuff about the Moussoui trial, of course, with veiled, typically French-style inferences, but no fuller stance than vague nods 'n nudges.<br><br>This was a quick search. I'm not suggesting that the article doesn't exist. I simply didn't find any significant pronouncement. It might be worth mentioning, meanwhile, that Le Monde is to France as the NYT is to the US. Which is to say that the problem of media ownership is the same in this country as it is in the US.<br><br>Le Monde is not likely to take sides. It'd be <i>rrrealy bad for business.</i><br><br>Perhaps you friend could retrace the article? If s/he succeeds, I'll buy the beer! <p></p><i></i>

I missed that issue. <br><br>Here, have a beer everone!<br><br>Although ... the article you reference is not from Le Monde but from the <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>Le Monde Diplomatique</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> [publications linked by name and origin but which have taken very, very different paths].<br><br>I know, nitpicking.<br><br>But Le Monde Diplomatique is often conveniently and very wrongly dismissed as being "conspiratorial". <!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://mondediplo.com/">Here</a><!--EZCODE LINK END--> is the English language version. Thanks sijepuis!! I am glad to see my friend had at least part of it right. This is not a person who would make this stuff up!! So you are saying this publication may be more on the level of say Vanity Fair or something like that...not a major newspaper? <p></p><i></i>

Hi darkbeforedawn -- 'glad pugzleyca3 was able to solve that one for us. ::<br><br>For info, Le Monde Diplo doesn't have a counterpart in the US, that I can think of. Contrary to Le Monde, which is a daily, LMD is published monthly, with articles that are thoroughly researched, treating topics in much greater depth than a daily can; they don't simply report "newsyness". <br><br>Additionally, their contributors are considered opinionated 'intellectuals' -- left-leaning ... [some would say 'Marxist'] who do not hesitate to say what they think. In this era of tightly controlled media, LMD is thought by some to be a public danger [lol!].<br><br>It's well worth reading, btw. <p></p><i></i>
