A few short months before the first gulf war began, the president of AU, was caught making dirty unsolicited and unwanted dirty phonecalls to a woman in DC. The university was very slow to act, and it took months of students demonstrations, to get him out without zillions of dollars (golden parachute clause). Soon thereafter the war bagan. Now, this months, the president of AU (another one) was caught stealing money and again it takes student demonstrations to fire him and not give him zillions of dollars.
I was a student in AU, in the first incidents (1990), I am wondering if this incident is a sign for a major upheaval in the USA. AU is a little "microcosm" of Washington DC, and as you know, Khashoggi is one of their main donors.
A couple of days ago I wrote a cynical posting in my blog about the "israeli connections" in AU, and my memoires.. Two things happened the next day - 1/ a letter landed in my email box from AU, inviting me, to an alumni conference in Geneva, the topic of which is going to be "torture"...2/ the post was "erased" from the blog (and recovered today, thanks to google cache..I didn't know this magical box existed).
My "twist" in the post was the fact that the "liberal left wing" in ISrael has an agreement with AU to send fellow to study "HUman RIghts" in AU of all places. The campus is swarming with Israeli spooks, some are professors, and what not. But mostly, I made a cynical comment, whether it was Khashoggi who is in fact funding ISraeli "civil liberties"...in the USA.Then, I took a look at the foundation who does that in ISrael (NIF), and found out they recently began a joint project with the Ford Foundation (which they call :The NEw Israel FOrd Fund").
I am not going to be able to fly to Geneva *unless Khaghoggi is picking up the tab, as I hardly have money enough for basic food/housing for family and me, but I will take a look who is going to fly there from Israel, at whose expense and what they are going to say about torture. Should be interesting. Especially today, when the White House announce possible veto on a bill prohibitting torture of ALL prisoners of the US military. Cheney says that CIA should be exempt...

I can tell you that here in D-town, there isn't a single building bigger than my house that isn't SOMEHOW funded/influenced by the Ford Foundation. These people pretty well own this city (them and the "Merovingians" in St Clair Shores). My father told me yesterday, that as the crime "expands" into the suburbs(no one left in the 'urbs to rob!) away from Detroit, his plan was to apprehend the criminals himself, and give them a ride to SCS...

The Air Force Acadmeny(Citadel), just replaced its acting head again too, amid ongoing fuss over the sex abuses happening there.

I think the "veto" remark by the white house was stupid of them, honestly. The CIA could torture people anyway, and they'd never have to tell us, so why should they be "exempt" when EVERYONE knows they do what they damn well please regardless of laws anyhow?

Dumb idea, Cheny's mentioning the CIA at all, given how much he was in the news today, already pretty well publically convicted of outing a CIAgent. What a moron.

You'd think Rove at least, would've been politically saavy enough to have stopped him from talking at all. Even my VERY conservative grandmother can smell evil on Big Dick when he crawls out from under his rock.

Cheny is just showing his lack of political goods ense again. How this guy ever managed to gain power anywhere astonishes me. The American people have no respect for their vaunted "Democratic" process. Sometimes I want to just move to a mountaintop(or outer space) and let these idiots do what they want with the whole damned world.

Ah well. BTW: the memorial vigil (downtown) for MS Parks was lovely, and not nearly so annoying as the constant bombardment on the news today. They are expecting the pews to be full at her church on sunday.

Another dead hero.

Cheers.
SHCR

Another dead hero...

Postby marykmusic » Wed Oct 26, 2005 2:10 am

...and wonderful lady, who for a change actually died of old age. So few of them make it that long.

I remember... what it was like in the deep South, and just how radically she (and everyone who took part in the bus boycott that started it all) took on a whole, ingrained system.
They dared to do it differently than "the way it's always been." --MaryK

Edit: meanwhile, back at the topic... American University. Who all goes there? Isn't it primarily for the children of diplomats and other foreign students? --MK

Edited by: marykmusic at: 10/26/05 12:12 am

AU, for sons of diplomats and foreign students - I guess I'm just one of them foreigners...:-), it is important only if one is interested in the US foreign policies. It appears that the Iraq war, should be one of those issues to rise into prominence soon. AU, is one of those places where ideas with regards to the Middle East (ie war for freedom ?) incubate. I suppose that if the Iraqgate takes off soon (if nothing critical prevents it, like a flu pandemic or terrorist attack in California..) - the importance of what took place in AU and such other "think tanks" is going to be obvious. Since I spent a formative monsterous year there, during the first war, I am just sharing the nostalgia. Also, soliciting advice on how to write about it to Israelis.

I tend to believe that the evildoers in DC already have a "drawer-plan" for such bad times, like a grand diversion. Maybe I am already just paranoid.

I am following the Horowitz/Polk story with amazement. Now her elder son, Eli Polk (who was her primary defence witness) is charged with domestic violence. IT looks like mafia campaign to silence the truth that was going to come up in the trial. If I were Eli, I'd run some blood tests to check for suspicious chemicals that might account for bizarre tendencies to attack one's girl friend in the worst timing possible.
