- what should it be? - lub. says that psychopaths dont have conscience - what is it they dont have, and what should they have? -

there are two great types of morality in society and one of them is i think totally wrong - the wrong one is obedience to moral precepts of society - which morality assumes, fatally and foolishly, that society's rules are good and that obedience is good - i think the correct one is where conscience is 'using one's intelligence to maximise one's happiness', pursuing one's happiness with seriousness and earnestness - i think the only duty is to pursue one's happiness -

there are moral police without licenses who like to boss people around, who basically think that people are an inferior breed that needs ordering about - the effect of morality as obedience is that people's habit of pursuing their happiness decays, they stop asking themselves constantly: is this maximising my happiness in this imperfect dangerous and very complex world? - and secondly, when they get sick of being obedient, they throw morality as obedience out the window and only have disobedience as a guide - they think they are making themselves happy if they only disobey - this applies to nazis, juvenile delinquents and everybody - since they were unhappy obeying, they think that disobedience is going to make them happy - but throwing off one unhappiness does not make all other paths paths of happiness

if one looks closely at obedience, it is selfcontradictory - in order to obey with any sense at all, one has to be competent to correctly judge the rectitude of the agency obeyed - and if one is competent to judge the rectitude of the agency obeyed, one is competent to make one's own decisions - to obey without judging the rectitude or sanity of the agency obeyed is to throw yourself away - is to dump your mind and senses and sense - to commit suicide - to become mindless arms and legs of another's will - you wouldnt think it would be so popular, but it is very popular - we hear a lot about people wanting power, but we dont hear about people wanting powerlessness - freedom from responsibility - adult babies who want others to do their thinking - most people are proud of being obedient, although to dump your own sense and rely on the sense of another without using your own sense to judge the intelligence of the other's sense - this is suicide and criminally insane immorality -

there is this severe antinomy and selfcontradiction in society, that obedience is held up as a virtue in schools and church, and expected as a duty in the workplace - and then at the nuremburg trials we are shocked that nazis claim obedience for a virtue and defense - clearly we havent worked through this one to a sane point - we are still at the stage of confused and inadequate ideas

the effect of these moral police without licenses who encourage people not to use and train and develop their own sense is to give goodness a bad name - goodness is identified with submission to an authority [masturbation is bad, this is bad, that is bad] - the people then sensibly reject this and so want nothing to do with 'goodness' and 'being good' - so people turn their backs on the virtues, which are the causes of happiness - we dont want to even hear the word 'virtue' or 'duty' or 'being good' - this is all healthy and good - a person is supposed to grow out of obedience in adolescence, to start to grow one's own sense of values and judgement of what is best -

people are very passive, whereas conscience or pursuit of happiness is totally active - a constant inquiry into what is best for one - a constant openness to information of relevance to increasing happiness - whereas we are so closed to pursuit of happiness we havent even learned the sensible practical sane simple obvious golden rule: dont hurt others, or theyll hurt you

the effect of a severe obedience morality is that people under it cannot face having done wrong - so they can never know they have done wrong, when they have done wrong - a severe obedience morality creates psychopaths as described by lub. - facing the fact they have done wrong would bring down on them all the internalised wrath of the fatherfigure, the parental superego - people who have been subjected to an obedience morality [instead of a love morality] throw off this morality, and have then a vacuum in which they cannot face any information about themselves - their true conscience, the constant inquiry into what will maximise happiness is atrophied from total disuse, and the only morality they have known is now rejected - the good of the obedience morality is thrown out with the bad, the unloving, the obedience - this of course applies well to hitler if he did have a severe prussiantype father - but it applies in less degree to everyone -

children should be trained to think: is this really going to increase my happiness? ie, is this truely good? instead, children are discouraged, punished for asking: why should i do this? - philosophers no longer know what should and ought mean - 'i should do x' should mean 'doing x will increase my happiness'

if people can put aside all mindlessly accepted ideas and look at obedience, they will see that obedience is criminal immorality - obedience is mindlessly lending ones arms and legs and brain and life to the will of another, without making any inquiry as to the morality or goodness of the person submitted to - it is a survival strategy for little children to mindlessly obey their parents, but children, if loved, will be trained to develop their own understanding of reasons for doing and not doing things - reasoning, thinking will be encouraged - most society is fascist in spirit, for it aims at the oppression of individuals, the enslavement of individuals to the will of another - slavery is very popular - many parents enjoy the enslaving of their children, many parents use terror/threat/fear to oppress their children

who enquires: why is stealing bad, when is stealing bad? -

the obedience morality has made it impossible for most people to take to heart the very simple, easy to understand, sensible golden rule - dont hurt others because they are very likely to hurt you back - although experience constantly teaches the sense of this, people are 'immunized' against grasping it by the obedience morality - associated with obedience morality [enslavement, repression, unlove], the golden rule is associated with bad - the baby of the golden rule is thrown out with the bathwater of the obedience morality -

what is more obvious than that if you hurt someone they are very likely to hurt back, so hurting others is hurting yourself - making enemies is not a happiness strategy - even a 100% selfish person, who has no empathy with others at all, can understand that - a 100% selfish person will treat everyone very nicely, will minimise the enmity of everyone they meet - and so will less selfish people - but we are locked into not grasping the very simple golden rule -

our ideas have been hopelessly confused by the agents of the obedience morality - the terrorists of family and states

the good meaning of goodness is 'what increases our happiness' - the bad meaning of goodness is 'obeying precepts' -

we have been trained [by unlovers] to think pursuit of our happiness is 'selfish'/bad - most people pursue their happiness kindof sneakily, around the rim of the obedience morality - guiltily - and therefore pursue their happiness with less than maximal subtlety and intelligence

jesus talks about inheriting the kingdom - you inherit when the FATHER DIES - ie, when you become your own father/parent - eg, kinsey, in the [good] film, grows his own morality, and becomes father even to his own father - this is adulthood, this is responsibility, this is maturity - the death of god [the death of parent as other] is the beginning of morality

disobedience is just obedience with a minus sign - obedience is maximal stupidity and mindlessness - and so is disobedience - going west being a wrong way doesnt make going east the right way - the right way for maximal happiness may be any of the 360 directions

pursuit of happiness is an unalienable DUTY - the only duty - you never get an animal that isnt pursuing its happiness -

there are intelligent things even in the bible - if you read it in an original way - the definition of god is I AM WHAT I AM - that is a boast and that means [if it means something intelligent and good]: i dont submit even slightly to what anyone thinks of me, i submit only to what i think of me - i am my own parent - i have internalised guilt - i allow only myself to make myself feel guilty - if i didnt make any mistakes, i couldnt have any growth, and growth is fun - I AM WHAT I AM, and fuck you, buddy, i do my own thinking [always happy to borrow some good thinking i approve of]

paradoxically, the person who has been dealt with most gently by parents, is least damaged in goodness/pursuit of happiness, in ability to face one's errors and to correct them, and therefore to grow and develop in happiness - the stronger the superego, the less growth - the obedience merchants, the fascists of school and society, fail to apply the golden rule - they hurt others, they terrorise, they threaten, they oppress, they enslave - they do not bring children up, they hold them down, and the child grows up a psychopath, that is, an adult body with an infant's egotism and rage and lack of intelligence - lack of artistry in morality/pursuit of happiness - eg, hitler again - be happy by grabbing all europe, too stupid to grasp that people will retaliate, oppose - 40% of the nazi party were primary school teachers [Thewielt, Male fantasies, a study of german fascist pulp fiction]

how well have we assimilated the golden rule? - we accept a society that steals most earnings off most people - money buys all necessities and most wants - money is a joker good - good for millions of goods - and yet we allow the theft of US$60 trillion a year - which is over 90% of world earnings - we have billions with trillions while millions starve to death - and we dont think this might hurt us somewhere along the line - we dont think that this might rebound on us someway sometime, like 9/11 or anthrax in the post or having to go fight somebody who we have pissed off

forget compassion for the moment - how much are we hurting ourselves by this great vast ginormous hurting of others? - charlie chaplin punches a boxing machine, the machine punches him back, so chaplin gets mad at the machine, and punches it hard ...

we laugh at the comic hillbillies who run a feud, shooting forever across the valley at the other family - and yet it is us

we have been made to feel so bad about being dumb, that we cannot face the fact that we are being dumb, and so we cannot grow less dumb! - we are LOCKED into dumbness!!! - it will take great intelligence to get us out of this mess - we have great intelligence - everyone can grasp what i am saying here

no one has decided to be dumb - no one has created themselves dumb - no one is responsible for being dumb - so no one need feel bad about being dumb - blame god/mothernature/evolution and get going

what greater service can you do for humanity than to be a master, a fine artist at pursuit of happiness? - nuns full of nastiness and brutality are not being good, they are being very bad, they are very poor artists of happiness

suppose for a moment god existed: unless god is insane, pursuit of sanity is pursuit of god

i think [without conceit, i think] that what i am saying here is crucial to humanity's survival and happiness - let me know if you agree - i need the encouragement - its a steep climb

and thanks, blue ibis, for the starting point

this is fruit of a lifetime's meditation on the troubles of humanity - it is my heart and soul and mind and love - give it a little - writings range in value from zero to infinity - not reading and digesting and taking to heart the most valuable writings hurts you most - beware what you give your time to - it may be of less value than something else

i can prove in a minute that everyone already agrees my plan [at
www.globalhappiness.org - not an org] will make everyone 100 times happier - and i cant interest anyone because people have been thoroughly bamboozled and befuddled away from pursuit of happiness

if you woke up tomorrow and everyone was happy and smily and laughy and blithe and chatty, your happiness would be lifted - so even to a selfish person the happiness of others is of concern - caring for others isnt nice and noble, it is practical and selfish in a good sense - you cant stop it being good for you if others are happy, so you cant stop it being selfish to care about others - but that is good selfishness, sane intelligent selfishness, is dutiful pursuit of happiness - we arent very compassionate - so lets be unhurtful for selfish reasons, like the decent and sane animals
