I hadn't either. And I must have missed one of Jeff's posts: rigorousintuition.blogspo...umaki.html

In some quick research, I see a lot of speculation about his suicide, but it is not clear one way or the other, lots of "apparent" and "supposed"'s from what I have seen so far. Mark seemed to be reaching the apex of his career and exposure, then bam. It's a tough call - I have two good artist friends in particular who have either flirted with suicide, or have tried - but it's not our call. J.H. Hatfield, Danny Casalaro, Gary Webb and Lombardi did not 'paint pictures' of fucking soup cans.

In memoriam

MARK LOMBARDI

1951 - 2000

Memorium site with some testimony from friends

Here is some of his work, and
more here

His work is amazing. As Jeff wrote, it is dizzying - and the molecular, supernovic creatures that emerge are as discombobulating as the networks themselves. To see the visualization of a subconscious cooperating with hard parapolitical research is what I find so gripping. One reviewer remarked that no overarching power or center emerges in the decentralized structures, but I have found myself attempting to visualize another dimension missing from the 2-dimensional frame. At any rate, I'd think his work holds huge educational potential and value which ought to leave the smarmy, trendy, parasitic elite art world behind.

NPR story

Rumormill news linking to Uri Dowbenko (linking to 'insider' Al Martin) also quoted by Jeff, and other speculative links on the suicide.
