I like Universalism when its used to promote principles like the Golden Rule and genuine egalitarianism.<br><br>But, it forms the basis for cultural evolutionist movements (from those who claim to belong to the cultural, economic, or political model that is the pinnacle of that evolutionary process) at the roots of the moral justification for such global catastrophes as the British Empire, neo-liberal economic reform, and neo-conservatism.<br><br>Somewhere, I'd like to think there's a middle ground that accepts enough universalism to counter decontructionalism's descent into near nihilism but also enough relatism to promote cultural diversity and discourage trends toward cultural elitism. <p></p><i></i>
