As far as whether or not the network of alternative communities is of any real importance, I've definately noticed a serious uptick in the amount of conspiratorial rabble-rousing on the mainstream blogs I regularly peruse, especially since 7/7. I mean, just look at what's happening with dKos. They great post-7/7 "purge" is still underway. They had a special election in Ohio this week that was unexpectedly close with some (expectedly) anomalous incidences. Basically one of the areas, Clermont, found that they had way undercounted the number of votes for the GOP candidate, breaking the near 50/50 split at the last minute. And that very evening after the votes are counted the main Moderator, Armondo, writes this diary pre-emptively telling anyone that writes a "there was fraud" and any other "bullshit conspiracy theory" diaries will be banned, as part of the ongoing purge.

That's progress, as far as I can tell. The desire by the operators of sites that strive to be "legitimate" and "taken seriously" to keep conspiratorial thought out of their communities is nothing new. But the need to pre-emptively try to stop such rabblerousing is a new development, as far as I can tell.

Another forum I like to frequent, the Randi Rhodes message board, (Randi actually does a good job of subtly hinting to her audience about the dirty-lil' 9/11 secrets) is literally overrun with 9/11 Truth-movement types. We're the dominant force on that topic on that forum, and this is the forum for what is probably the first or second top-rated show on Air-America.

Democratic Underground, which I've never frequented much, is notorious for having to keep a lid on this stuff (didn't you start of at DU Jeff?). Have they successfully purged the place or are they still having to maintain their online police state?

The point is that, at least on the Lefty sites, I've been witnessing a gradual, but increasing, awareness that at the very least the official 9/11 story is total BS. It's mostly just the same hardcore opponents of anything that that smacks of conspiracy that seem to be actively arguing against it anymore. That's progress, and it's progress I'd have to imagine the establishment types that are terrified of seeing their reality-matrix break down are increasingly concerned with. And if they're aren't concerned with us dissident like us, all the better! This ruling class won't be the first one to fall due to pride and arrogance.

I'm probably just viewing this with my "the cup is 1/10th full instead of 9/10ths empty" attitude, but hell, movements for change have to start somewhere if they're going to get anywhere. And something has started here. Who knows where it's headed, or if it just implodes, but it's here now and it's growing. And like Jeff likes to point it, our awareness is our most potent weapon, and if there's a single over-arching theme to what we're a part of here, it's a theme of growing awareness: awareness that we've been seriously lied to and managed like sheep in the past, and awareness that we're being seriously lied to and managed today. So maybe what we're seeing now is an Management Awareness Movement because it really does feel like, all of a sudden, people are realizing that we, the people, definately are not The Boss. And when we look around, groping for answers, trying to determine who is The Boss, what we find makes Tony Danza look like all the best parts of Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha all wrapped up into one.
