Here's a curious thread from Democratic Underground that is drawing little but sniggers there, that may be of more interest here:

Something just plain weird going on by dragndust (287 posts)

I've been in touch with a truck driver friend. He told me he dropped his regular trailer at the company's terminal in CA, and bobtailed to a huge abandoned military base in Texas. He was given a non-descript white trailer.

There are now 300 trucks from his company, as well as hundreds from others. They're locked in on the grounds, and more trucks are arriving all the time. He's been sitting since early Saturday. They've been told they aren't allowed out of their trucks for more than twenty minutes, and there is a gubmint "roach coach" that comes by at mealtimes.

He said last night, a bunch of buses came in to take the drivers to a truckstop two hours away, where they all got free showers. He has no idea what they'll be hauling, or how long he'll be sitting there.

Any ideas?

Some additional information from "dragndust":

...running out the door at the moment.

He's been calling me by cell phone. The base is long ago abandoned. The truckstop two hours away is near Weatherford (just outside Ft.Worth).

When he called the other night the drivers were surmising that they were preparing just in case the hurricane hit Texas. I told him there was no way they would be going to those lengths before a hurricane. Anyway, it didn't happen, and the operation continues.

Oh yeah...he said he's being paid $200 per day to sit there.

Edited by: Rigorous Intuition at: 7/20/05 10:57 am

This is interesting. Wonder if there are others like this spread out around the nation. Sounds like they are getting ready for a major round-up of the herd.

Or, this could be disinfo. Any way to verify it?

I live in Austin, and for the past two days, driving through a hotel parking lot close to my workplace, there have been at least 30 American Red Cross Disaster Relief trucks parked. Now this is just idle speculation, but Austin is only 2 hours away from Waco. The hurricane just hit Brownsville which is WAAAY south. And then I read about a nuclear strike game being prepared to be played in the States. Hey, has anyone really read Rudi's business calendar for the next week?? I'm hoping not to glow in the dark ....

Skeptical and suspicious

So we 'know' this base is within about a hundred miles of Fort Worth ... I don't undertsand why a trucker who obviously knows where he drove TO can't say where this base is, what's the nearest small town, along/near what routes? Instead we're guessing about where and why and like that ... I wasted more time than I should have trying to deduce where this base is, what it's name and histroy is -- I got sandbagged with Marfa, a fascinating rural ranchtown community with an abandoned military-base/airfield, home of the mysterious 'Marfa Lights' which would make a great RI topic in its own right-- mebbe I should just post what I found. But it's closer to 400 miles than 100 miles from Marfa to Ft. Worth.

Very strange kinda rumour. 300 truckers locked-down for some secret purpose, being paid $200 day plus meals, drivin to a truck-stop for showers? That's like $60,000 a day just in driver-fees? I don't believe it -- disinfo or just chaff-chatter, perhaps to distract addicted conspiranoics or to see how far and wide an unsubstantiated, bogus meme can spread on the webwaves?

I dunno;
I'm keepin' my distance on thios till I see something more/better.

Marfa, tho ...
Starman

In another thread, there was a warning that there would be a terrorist attack in the U.S. on Thursday to distract from the Rove/Plame hearings that involved info on Blair's involvement. I think it was from flocco.com. Can't find it right now, and not saying it is connected. But it is a dot...

I see DU has deleted the thread already.
