This university course description is quite interesting. It refers to Anthony Blunt AND Anthony Blount as though the two were interchangeable.

Maybe John Le Carre has all the answers.

Quote:
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is the seventh novel written by John le Carre. It is the first in a series of three novels known as The Quest for Karla, and includes The Honourable Schoolboy (1977) and Smiley's People (1980). This novel is based on the action of real life double agents that penetrated the British Secret Service. In the next 30 years following World War II, there were several exposures of Russian spies in Britain. In 1951, two spies, defected to Russia just before they were about to be exposed. In 1963, the same thing happened again with a man named Kim Philby fleeing to Russia. And finally, in 1973 a fourth man was revealed in connection with the first three. These four men, Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, Philby, and Sir Anthony Blount, all had some influence on le Carre in the writing of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. However the "mole" in the novel, Bill Haydon, is seen most like Kim Philby. Le Carre spent much time on the issue of Kim Philby prior to writing this novel. In 1968, he wrote the introduction for The Philby Conspiracy. His attitude toward Philby is one of fascination and repulsion, saying that he had "a profound loathing for the man" (Cobbs). His introduction to this book was widely talked about for quite a while.

SNIP

Despite the revelation of this third person spying for the Soviets, there was still rumor of a fourth man. Ten years after the defection of Philby, Sir Anthony Blunt, a distinguished art historian and official art advisor for the queen, revealed himself as a Soviet spy and fled to Moscow. These scandals were highly publicized throughout Britain, causing a great deal of both fascination and horror within the general public (Cobbs, 104).

www3.isrl.uiuc.edu/~unswo...ldier,+Spy

i had come across a review of "Miranda Carter - Anthony Blunt: His Lives" that detailed anthony blunts royal connections through the mosley smith family famous for that british fascist Sir Oswald Mosley.
While trying to connect the blount family to the current royal family (as their other royal connection dates to tudor times) the name i kept coming across was this smith family.
It does look to me that they are related, the difficulty is to prove it one would still have to work backwards from James Blunts family.

books.guardian.co.uk/firs...46,00.html

Quote:
Blunt's father, Stanley, came from a family of impecunious but respectable and devout churchmen on the evangelical wing of the Anglican Church; his mother, Hilda, was from a well-to-do family of civil servants in the Indian Colonial Service. The Blunts were pious, austere, fiercely teetotal, anti-gambling and keen on charitable works. They had no money, but they did have good connections, both inside and outside the Church. They were a junior branch of the Blunts of Crabbet Park, landed gentry with a large estate near Horsham in Sussex, whose incumbent at Anthony's birth was the infamous poet and anti-imperialist Wilfrid Scawen Blunt.

~snip~

The Masters were certainly richer and, in the wearisomely precise class stratifications of England in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, slightly grander than the Blunts. Scottish by origin, they could trace themselves back to sixteenth-century gentry, the Masters of Barrow Green. Hilda was, moreover, second cousin to the Earl of Strathmore, the father of the future Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. (There was also a distant link with the Mosleys, whose youngest scion, Sir Oswald, would head the fascist Right in the 1930s.)

Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible. -- Lawrence of Arabia
