more news on Rafi Eitan and J. Pollard

Postby havanagilla » Sat Apr 15, 2006 11:52 am

yesterday's Yediot Ahronot (Israel's largest newspaper) reports that Pollards lawyer in Israel sent a warning letter to PM Ehud Olmert, saying that if he appoints Rafi Eitan as minister in his cabinet, Pollard will file a petition to the high court of justice opposing the appointment and releasing a documents which is "very embarassing" to Rafi Eitan. In response, Rafi Eitan sends a message, via journalist Ronen Bergman, that if this happens he will release a very embarrasing document implicating Shimon Peres in the Pollard operation.
--
Israeli gov is under tremendous pressure to release Pollard from the US federal prison, but so far without success. The Pollard Lobby (made up of religious extreme right wingers) insists that the USA was not opposed to the early release of Pollard, but rather that Israel (via shimon peres and rafi eitan) made covert requests that the US pretends to be the one which resists the clemency. Pollard claims that the US has no interest keeping him in prison but it is the ISraelis who fear what he will say while out of prison. to prove it, they say Rafi Eitan sent a private letter to caspar weinberger where he "burried" Pollard for eternity. They also quote eitan as saying to Pollard's wife, privately, that "the only thing I regret is not putting a bullet through Pollard's head, when he came to the embassy. this way, no "polllard affair" would have happened".

What can Pollard say out of prison tha he can't say in prison? Man, I would love to find out what this is all about, especially if it by chance involves the October Surprise.

Well, I am sure there is a huge difference bn someone being in prison in the USA, and being free and in Israel, re his ability to say things about ISRAELI officials. After all, in a way, he is dependent on Israel for his release now, and constantly he receives threats in the israel MsM to SHUT UP. not easy.
--
I think what he has can prove that 1. israeli prime minister Shimon Peres was behind the idea to use him and not as otherwise told that it was a low level decision.
AND, there could be a lot, who knows what he knew then and more so, what he realized since then.
--
I tend to agree that the USA is NOT the impediment for his release. After all, he served a very long sentence, he is now an Israeli citizen, his main vendetta is against his handlers FRom ISRAEL, what is the interest of keeping him in jail, from American standpoint ? none. But it makes sense that Peres requested he shall stay incarcerated and in return provided a lot more info to the USA about some things that ARE important to the USA.
---
There is a poster in Tel aviv this week showing Pollard in a Kaffiyeh (dressed as palestinian) and it reads - "If Pollard were a terrorist, Sharon would secure his release".
