The only name I get outside of those attached to the article is "Donn Grandpre". But as I said, he seems to young.

If you do "Donn de Grand-Pre" or "Donn de Grand Pre" or "Donn de Grandpre" you get a lot of similar hits. Evidently the Portuegese article had it "Donn Grande".

Donn Grandpre was connected to this Grandpre family, but no idea if it's the same guy. The context makes him seem to young.

There is a Richard Grandpre who has written articles against Ritalin and a book on his druggie days.

Here's another reference to Donn Grandpre in South Dakota:

Quote:
HURON FIRM WINS EMPLOYMENT AWARD

Donn Grandpre, Chairman of the South Dakota American Legion Employment Committee has announced that the committee has selected the Employer of the Year for Hiring Veterans.

Selected as this year's recipient, in the Small Category (50 or fewer employees), is Asphalt Paving and Materials Co. of Huron, SD.

The company has 39 employees 9 of whom are veterans for a 23.07 percent veteran employment rate. Woops...yes, in fact this IS our guy. He now lives in South Dakota. The phone number listed here is the same one he gives on the Jones interview here. Exact same phone number, which suggests that, at the very least, he's taking a bit of creative license with his name, but not really trying too hard to hide if he's giving out his number.

So, this is all a bit odd. If he has the background he claims (arms dealer, arms negotiator, etc.) you'd think there would be SOMETHING else on him. But I've found nothing.

But the larger story is how this worked. He gets a story picked up, by all things, a Portueguese paper, which then filters back into the US. A typical CIA way to put a story out there. But to what purpose?

It's not as if this one guy can actually precipitate a coup so what's the deal. And now just hanging out

Unfortunately, the feature that allows you to submit questions to "Earl" on whose website the war tales transcribed by Donn are found, does not work. I just sent a "sort of" anonymous email to the owner of that site...also a Grandpre. I really don't want to call the phone number...others are welcome to...
