Elevation is run chiefly by a guy called John Riccitello who used to be the CEO of games company Electronic Arts. Their other big recent deal was to acquire Bioware and Pandemic studios - two large game development companies for around $300m in a combined deal. Riccitello is quite a piece of work. Very, very smart and aggressive and he's not that old. When they announced Bono as a partner it was assumed that he was on board as a deal greaser and figure head.

The Forbes thing is right out of left field. Completely bewildering to most media watchers. The 'it has a POV' comment is a bit like saying that a band 'makes a noise'.

Lordy.

Embrace the irony?

Postby Gouda » Tue Aug 08, 2006 1:01 pm

...still waiting for Larry Mullen Jr. to split that misguided dinghy. Maybe the business is just too damn good. Maybe he bought into Bono's "embrace the irony" in the "middle of a contradiction" mutual fund.

Gods, he just gets more nauseating. Some people here might remember I kinda ranted about him a few weeks ago on the RI blog...sorry, up way too late, drank way too much... but what I said stands, even more so now. Bono sold his soul for pop stardom, both he and "Sir Bob" seem to do nothing these days but have photo opprtunities with world leaders and give a lot of lip service to eliminating poverty when they themselves are part of the problem (that 17th century feudal mansion in Ireland might give ya a clue. How quaint the 'revolutionary' lives in the former home of the imperial exploiter...). Makes me want to speculate about what might have been going on in the minds of the music execs when they originally signed and promoted their respective bands...pulling the fangs of punk maybe? Steer the kids toward the music of owned men instead? Maybe a little far-fetched a theory, I admit, but I have been underwhelmed with Bono for years, but now he's just getting CREEPY!

You forgot the "ego-tripping pointless" bit that goes with wanker, Jeff.

Wonder what they want to do with that POV that Forbes has. I think U2 signed some pretty wild deals back in the late 80s that made them part owners in Sony or something.

I can't remember. And they were on Chris Blackwells label. Remember what Scratch Perry thought of him.

But Elvis is cool. He faked his own death and everything since he joined the army. Cos a talking sprout told him to.
