the excessive time being spent on internet-insider bullshit, hysterical personal diatribes against and instigating fellow posters, and hyena-like attacks?

Usually by those who have the least "substance" to contribute to these discussions. I know, because I get sucked into these flame wars, due to a combination of heresy and personality. Personally, I'm pledging to not respond to that shit any more at all, especially if I don't think they're worth my time. We'll see how long I can keep it up, but as long as I post, you can be sure I'll continue to keep the "substance" up.

These gatekeeper-trolls seem to want to turn these discussions into "you're either with us or against us" one-line back-and-forth affirmations.

Fuck people, we are all freaked out. Let's keep it together enough to stay on point -- which is learning new stuff, and debating important questions, and questioning orthodoxy, and challenging sacred cows if they need to be challenged.

As much as I'm sure we all need it, this is a discussion board, not group therapy, and any idea that there is or should be any genuine and substantial "community" here, beyond an agreement to disagree, is a foolish dream. Sure, we can socialize in the parlour, and wring our hands about how evil bush is, and lend advice, and help people out if necessary. But where's the balance?

I really am not so concerned about your war with db, nor did I read it very closely, beyond getting a sense that you may have mis-read his intentions.

I took the opportunity to post what I did for largely macro- and seperate reasons, and I certainly didn't wish to smear you personally as a "gatekeeper-troll", as it sounded. In fact, I've valued your input before, that's why I was communicating w/ you before btw. It's just that I've been sucked into these things recently, and, well, top-of-mind.

Yeah, I jumped on this thread for my own reason, to put something out there. As far as "group therapy", I'm not 100% against it here or anywhere, but I guess that's what the debate could be about. I don't know if "group therapy" is the best place to really get to "truth", especially if that truth means challenging popular orthodoxy. Too many times I've seen group therapy turned into group-think, led by a popular, well-spoken (or written) powerful few. Just check out most 12-step meetings these days.

Anyway, stay tough ponyboy, don't ease off. I, for one, welcome the presence of another rudebwoi.

Misunderstanding

Postby Peachtree Pam » Tue Sep 06, 2005 3:32 pm

sometimes takes place here because sarcasm does not come across very well in writing unless it is specifically stated, "I'm being sarcastic here".....

We all like to read your posts and get your insights...

Why do you call me welp? I could get offended over it, but I won't.

Look, I worked for a number of years in a high-stress job, and yes, it involved a lot of sad kids. The humor is called "black humor". Is it appropriate? Probably not. But if you take yourself and the world too seriously for too long, you will break.

Put the focus back on this bitch, who was not trying to be humorous when she said it. When she says stuff like this, I begin to feel sorry for the Shrub, believe it or not. Can you imagine being raised by someone like that?

Edited by: chiggerbit at: 9/6/05 1:36 pm

We gotta stay together. Keep our heads clear. The chaos is spreading. Don't fall into the trap.

Some days I wish i were just cold-blooded like Babs. It would be so much easier to deal with. But then I burst into tears. People at work seem heartless. I try to remain calm when they say stupid things. One of them actually said "ship them back to Africa." I was dumbfounded. She did admit that she'd be looting too if she were in the same boat. I didn't even want to get into the fact that the looting has been exaggerated.

re: Who What Where or Why

Hey whowhatwherewhy! Leave dbeach alone! He is a good guy and didn't deserve that attack-ever!

Also I for sure come to this board for therapy, because over at DU there is so much disinfo and so many people trying to cover up and hide the truth, that it's a relief to come over here and find people that know the truth, seek the truth and speak the truth! I wear my tinfoil hat with pride over here!

Btw Jeff, can you get us a sarcasm emoticon and a tinfoilhat one too? I think they would come in handy.
