I saw a photo a couple days ago of Terry Jones and Dorothy Divic, a close-up. Ms Jones was obviously distraught with concern for her charge. I wish I'd saved the image and I'd really appreciate a copy of it, or a link.

I train teachers in Korea, and my students regularly label racist attitudes as "natural." The U.S is often mentioned. And that image, with the series in the post, is worth more than any arguments I might make. I'd like to use it with my classes ...

I'm putting this rant here because it doesn't warrant its own thread and really I shouldn't post until I've meditated on it some. But here I go--
There's a Jehovah's Witnesses lady who comes by the house every week to talk about the Bible with me, and I enjoy having the opportunity to talk about current events with her, to see how she reconciles it with passages from the Good Book. I flatter myself thinking she keeps coming back because she wants to hear what I have to say, because in my heart I feel that my relationship with the Creator doesn't come through affiliation with any church, it doesn't have a name and if it did it wouldn't be Christianity, and she knows this. I want to believe that underneath and behind all the talk, we genuinely like each other and enjoy each other's company--I'd hate to think I was wrong about that, and she's just doing what Jay-Dubs do, going door to door and preaching the gospel. Other Jehovah's Witnesses at other times have tried to convert me and quit trying, but this woman keeps coming back.
Because she's black, I tend to bait her on racial issues, I'm always quoting Martin Luther King to her, about civil disobedience and nonviolent protest, but she never loses her footing: Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done. With tears in my eyes, I said, "Aren't you even a little bit pissed off at what's going on in Louisiana?" and she said,
"I know it seems worse because it's happening here, and not somewhere else, but this kind of thing--and much worse--is happening and has been happening all over the world for a long time. YOU want something to happen now, because it's happening now, and it's happening here."

She's right, you know--

i want to see that series of photos turned into a series of sculptures eternally on display. lit at night. children's hands rubbing them bright. and also made into the only postage stamp we use for a decade.

human service workers are the heart of humanity. those photos go beyond that...straight to my marrow.

Terry Jones, i bow at your feet and thank you for my tears.

ah, words are useless to describe what one sees in those photos........

Ms Plurabelle, don't dismiss the words you've found, they are a beautiful reflection.

Rollick I too have a visiting witness. I've told her that she's praying for a holocaust of billions, and that I would rather die than survive it. She too smiles, and speaks of The Plan ...

It took me down a few pegs, I guess because I'm sensitive to the criticism that Americans are--uh, Americo-centric, we can't see past our own borders, that sort of thing, and the loss of American lives is somehow worse than people dying every day in Africa.
I will say this, if the American sheeple just look the other way while thousands of their own just disappear I agree with you I'd rather die than live among such domesticated, neutered, brain-dead good-for-nothing wouldja look at the tits on that Lindsay Lohan reality-show-watchin videogame-playin
