Jailed Pedophile Guilty in 1998 Murder of Boy, 12<br><br>By BARBARA WHITAKER<br>Published: September 29, 2005<br><br>A man described as a classic sexual predator who is already serving time for sexually abusing a dozen teenage boys was found guilty yesterday of the kidnapping and murder of a 12-year-old Yonkers boy found buried in a shallow grave in Dobbs Ferry more than six years ago.<br><br>The murder of the boy, Orlandito Rosario-Maldonado, which shocked Westchester, went unsolved for years before investigators compiled enough evidence to arrest Robert D. DeRosario, a suspect from the beginning.<br><br>Mr. DeRosario, 42, showed no emotion when the verdict was read. He faces a sentence of 25 years to life.<br><br>"We will seek the maximum period of incarceration," said Jeanine F. Pirro, the Westchester district attorney. "This is a classic example of those sexual predators who cross the line and kill their victims."<br><br>The boy was last seen on Nov. 2, 1998, in Mr. DeRosario's apartment building after getting a haircut. <!--EZCODE BOLD START--><strong>The investigation into his death led authorities to a world of child sexual exploitation, and nine men, including Mr. DeRosario, were ultimately arrested on charges that they sexually abused boys in Westchester County. <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>Among them were public officials and corporate executives.</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--></strong><!--EZCODE BOLD END--><br><br>Mr. DeRosario admitted to sexually attacking 12 boys, ranging in age from 13 to 19, and pleaded guilty to 12 counts of sodomy, sex abuse and endangering a child. In July 2000 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.<br><br>"This case opened up a world of pedophiles we were able to identify," Ms. Pirro said. "But for the longest time we didn't have sufficient evidence to bring murder charges against the individual who killed Orlandito."<br><br>The boy's body was badly decomposed and, aside from the fact that he was strangled by a piece of rope similar to some found in Mr. DeRosario's apartment, there was little physical evidence.<br><br>Ultimately, the rope, coupled with fantasies Mr. DeRosario related on the Internet and admissions he made to other inmates helped lead to his indictment in 2004, Ms. Pirro said.
