One of the things that never gets talked about much outside of Fortean circles is how certain names are consistently over-represented in certain types of events. Wayne and Lee, for example, are eerily common names for serial killers, far, far above their representation in the general population. UFO and monster reports are much more common in places named after the Marquis de Lafayette. Admittedly, Carr isn't that uncommon of a name. It does seem to be over-represented in heinous murders of late, though:

John Dickson Carr is a well-known author of murder mysteries.

Ian Huntley (convicted of murdering the two schoolgirls in Soham a few years back) had a girlfriend/accomplice named Maxine Carr. In this case as well, Huntley admitted that both girls died in his house, but insisted that he did not kill them, claiming that the two died in unrelated accidents. IIRC some people on this board were speculating that Huntley was framed. While I'm personally inclined to think he's guilty, there's certainly room for argument. The crime itself was a very strange one, in that the murder of the two girls was almost a spur of the moment act. A fight over the telephone with Carr appears to have filled him with so much rage that he rushed out and murdered two girls without any lengthy premeditation. If I were a believer in mind control, etc., this case would be one to hold my attention.

Weldon Wayne Carr, an Atlanta businessman who, on a technicality, escaped trial for burning his wife to death.

The Carr brothers, Reginald and Jonathan, a pair of black mass murderers from Nebraska.

Others can be found, I'm sure. These are just the ones that come to mind right away. They're all recent, unusual, and especially horrifying murders, not just shooting the clerk while robbing the liquor store.

-Sepka the Space Weasel
