Fully agreed, Pan, -rigorous- attention to the specific phrasing of how we approach our questions/accusations is vital, even in an "insider" forum such as this.
Is this a semantic debate that is very important?
Was Polanski a Satanist - capital S?
Certainly he lived a satanic ethos. He was more than just dabbling in the occult. Like Sammy Davis (who was used to awshucksin' with "evil white men", what a peacock feather in La Vey's technicolor dreamhood.)
Polanski's degeneracy/dowhatyawant is obvious to those with a heart. Even up to his recent movies, like Bitter Moon, and 9th Gate, the fixation with evil or "satanic" influence is palpable.
With Benedict Canyon, he was only a heartbeat away - from what is the question?
Hollywood creep with a taste for the dark side?
Practicing occultist?
Card-carrying member?
Does this matter as part of formulating a broader, cohesive argument that can be "taken public", talking about the role of intel-connected cult-fronts during the late '60's?
The picture of LaVey as circus carny is true to a great degree, but a lie to a greater degree. However, in that cos bio anon posted you see an example of how they attempt to overplay that angle to obscure his parapolitical roots.
The "reality" is he didn't work on the film directly. So M.A. disproves this role by talking about the suit, while the more important truth is lost, the truth that the intel-connected satanic orgs and other occult groups held massive sway over the hollywood crowd in that day.
It's would be foolish to assume that many hollywood movies with occult themes did not use "advisors" from that community, either credited, or not.
Just like Bruckheimer et al used Defense Department advisors to brainstorm "independence Day", "Day After Tommmorrow", etc. As a recent example, yesterday mainstream science breaks the fact that it's sleep pyschosis that's the cause of all that nastiness...and it was in the CSI script by nightfall.
That cos bio is part of the "working" to get us to forget questions like: what the -hell- were those three boys doing over there working for US intel, anyway?
