Groundwork for Pre-emptive Strike on Iran?

In today's Bush and Co. press conference, Iran was "warned" on two fronts: Iranian weapons and bombs being found in Iraq, and Iran's resumption of of nuclear activity. <br><br>It is interesting to note that most of the coverage of Rumsfeld's statements from U.S. sources, did not include his warning, but I could find it in sources from the Middle East.<br><br><br><!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://egyptelection.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2242">From this Egyptian newspaper:</a><!--EZCODE LINK END--><br><!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>WASHINGTON - US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld accused Iran of allowing weapons to be smuggled across its border into Iraq, warning that "ultimately, it's a problem for Iran."<br><br>US intelligence believes that a cache of newly manufactured Iranian bombs discovered about two weeks ago in northeastern Iraq came from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, a US intelligence official said.<br><br>"It is true that weapons clearly, unambiguously from Iran have been found in Iraq," Rumsfeld told reporters.<br><br>He said he did not know whether there was official Iranian involvement in the weapons smuggling. But he added: "It's a big border and unhelpful for Iranians to be allowing weapons of those types to be crossing the border."<br><br>"It's a problem for the Iraqi government. It's a problem for the coalition forces. It's a problem for the international community. And ultimately, it's a problem for Iran," he said.<br><br>Pressed on what he meant, Rumsfeld said, "Well, they live in the neighborhood. The people in that region want this situation stabilized with exception of Iran and<br>Syria," he said.</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--><br><br><!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L09584651.htm">From this article</a><!--EZCODE LINK END--> on Iran's nuclear activities, there is a "last chance" warning:<br><br><!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>Iran's new President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defended the resumption of work at Isfahan but said Tehran wanted to continue negotiations with the EU, adding that he had new ideas on how to resolve the nuclear standoff with the West.<br><br>"I have new initiatives and proposals which I will present after my government takes office," he said in a telephone conversation with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the semi-official ISNA students news agency reported.<br><br>U.S. President George W. Bush told reporters in Crawford, Texas, it was a positive sign.<br><br>"That's a positive development," Bush said after Ahmadinejad spoke.
