new book released this month in Israel by Uri Neeman and David Arbel (ex MOssad) reveals that the October war was a LIHOP. The writers say that MOshe Dayan and Golda Myer, and their "kitchen" had clear intelligence about the war, yet they prefered to let it happen. Their working assumption was that the victory (which they anticipated) will promote ISraeli strategic goals. The writers describe Moshe Dayan as a cold and arrogant person who didn't care much for the lives of soldiers. <br><br>I didn't read the book, only some reviews. Possibly, it might be connected to 9-11. The intelligence PR dilema - is it better to appear incompetent OR evil in the eyes of your own people?<br><br> <p></p><i></i>

slim<br><br>It sounds very reasonable, and also that the last people to know about it are the Israeli public (the cannonball flesh, as we call ourselves here). the only reason I am interested in this kind of "guys' stuff" (military history) is to feel some comfort (the wrong idiotic kind) that i am not the only fool. So, you were saying this was also an American-EUropean prefabricated war, to serve the petro industry ? <br>I think the ISraelis sensed there was something wrong. There were numerous protests and inquiry commissions and the government fell. It also led to the final crash of the eternal Labor party rule. In 1977, Menachim Begine was elected and since then we have the other kind of thugs, the Likkud, running the same show. (prefabricated wars that nobody knows how they actually came about). Only recently did "little soldiers" start testifying to the lies of the IDF in reporting what is actually going on in the battlefield. Apparently, there were many "provocations" that led to 'so called' arab aggression, that led to so called 'justified' retaliatory attacks, which led, in turn to many more dead people on both sides. As much as things get really bad here, there are buds of normalcy among the simple folks, starting to question authority and official reports. Backtalks changed a lot in the last year. MAny ridicule the government's lame cover ups. This was NOT the case before. Most people were easily fooled, especially by "doomsday" threats, that we are going to be attacked, slaughtered by raging Arabs and thrown to the sea. <p></p><i></i>

Slim<br><br>for the first time I heard about this link bn ZIonism and oil, in this board. I am somewhat embarrassed to confess I fail to see the full argument...there is no oil in Palestine/Israel at all. <br>The only "conspiracy" i can come up with, following your suggestion, is that England encouraged JEwish settlement in PAlestine with the thought that this will serve as a European post in the area. Probably Slim was thinking along the lines you've suggested, i.e. Israel as an extension of Anglo-American policy in the Middle East region. To operate as a blockade against Arabs and to keep them "busy" worrying about "zionists" when their real enemy is American/Saudi oil cartels. <br><br>The American Right, being based as it is on evangelical Christians, opens numerous doors for the American "support" of Israel, as Christians view "Jews" as on "their side" and Muslims as being on Satan's side. Israel gives the Republicans an excuse for their continued vested interest in the Middle East, being able to claim support for Israel while meanwhile working, in truth, as much against Israelis as against anyone else.<br><br>Its just an excuse for interference. It is common in evangelical christianity to assume support of the Israeli government, and this is often used by "christian" leaders of USA as the front for their operations in the region. <p></p><i></i>

It was the British who first settled Jews in Palestine 150 years ago to cause unrest and division. <br><br>For me, Israel is no more than a giant US military base with civilians employed to keep it going.
