today, of all features, Haaretz weekend edition is running a huge interview with offra Bikel, only recently mentioned here in one of the more disturbing posts on "FMSF" or so....since the name offra was mentioned here, and it is Israeli, I googled it and that's that. Now, she is NEWS here. It makes me a bit paranoid. If the article appears in the english website I'll post the link, for now, this is the Hebrew link.
reasons for the timing ? (except that someone is peeping on my participation here. The Higher Coincidence .), she could be conductive in pollard's case as an expert on releasing prisoners, or what > don't know. She is explaining the RA documentary - that she was led to it by her then assistant producers and that she was suddenly given an exclusive right to interview the accused by their lawyer. According to her description she was not "on top" of the issue then, but after her success with the movie she made a series on this affair and assisted the accused.
She says it was her first local documentary (perviously she produced only stuff from outside USA). Was she used ? maybe, ambitious, our of town girl...possible..but not sure.
Her background is a bit suspicious. Her studies in Paris were "political science" not movies..em. In her four year stay in ISrael, she worked for the ministry of absorption...and also she had travelled extensively, made foreign movies about remote and wartorn areas. WOUldn't fully trust her...but then it could just be nothing. Presented here as "hero" who made it, and who uses her ISraeli "wits" to break through the cracks of the american blindspots and injustices.
www.haaretz.co.il/hasite/...ntrassID=0

Edited by: israelirealities at: 11/17/05 1:22 pm

get someone to write a very strong and eloquent letter against her one sided depiction of the SRA case and issue, and I will push it on haaretz to publish for the sake of "fair comment".
I will write something in my blog this weekend about Haaretz's reckless and biased and ignorant position, or lack thereof, on this crucial issue. But I think a letter from the USA will be stronger ! they care only when "foreigners" criticize them. (parochialism of small places). Someone like Ross Cheyet, who knows a little bit on the ISraeli situation and has a "Standing" could be perfect. Or anything, which explains why bringing only her take, is bad journalism (and bad for ISrael ?)
