paranormal sightings database kinda thing

Postby Ted the dog » Tue Sep 27, 2005 1:34 pm

Does anyone remember a paranormal database kind of thing being posted? I can't remember if it was on here or if it was actually mentioned by Jeff on his blog.

it wasn't "www.paranormaldatabase.com"...that one seems to be for the UK...the one I'm thinking of was from all over the world....it had a similar title, but it was dealing with very bizarre things...one in particular was a sighting involving a man in a black cape that would float from rooftop to rooftop...then the same sighting would surface somewhere else. (just as an example) the graphic design was minimal, and I think the sightings/reports were broken down by year.

anyone remember what I'm talking about? it was posted around 5 months ago maybe?

i think you are referrring to Jeff's blog entry of Thursday, May 05, 2005 "The Black Lodge, Part 2": rigorousintuition.blogspo...art-2.html

He put up a link to a "database of humanoid encounters, maintained by the Northwest Saskatchewan UFO Research Center..."
www.nwsurc.com/abduction/...tabase.htm
but I can't get to the link anymore; is 'not found'.

I actually took the trouble to read through that whole nwsurc database when it was up and it had the 'springheel jack' episode you're thinking of in it. If you're just looking for accounts of weirdness there are some gems buried in here:

theshadowlands.net/ghost/#real

but be warned that most of its contents are pretty lame...something about ghosthunting brings out sincere but lame folks even more than ufo-hunting, so you'll have to do a lot of sifting.

The links coming off of here go to what looks to be a mostly complete mirror of the nwsurc sightings listing through 2003...otherwise you'll have to use the internet archive to see it all:

www.ufoevidence.org/topics/humanoid.htm

thanks!

yeah...ghost hunting....I can't get into it, either. In my experience, it's usually either guys with some understanding of very rigid scientific principals or guys that wish they were Peter Venkman....either way, usually it's an account of them wandering around some old historical cite that's rumored to be haunted, searching for ghosts with boring looking gadgetry.

I actually can get into the Peter Venkman types more, because at least they're into the possibilities...the rigid scientific skeptics always seem to be on this mission to stand up after it's over and say, "See? I SCIENTIFICALLY proved that ghosts do not exist! You are all FOOLS for even THINKING that there might be something out there that SCIENCE doesn't already know about!!!"

Science doesn't even really accept the concepts of "ghosts" into it's general neighborhood....so how can one use science to disprove them? and what the fuck does "ghost" even mean, for that matter?

.....either way, ghosts or no, thanks for the links!

hi ted,

The only database type site I visit occasionally is www.nuforc.org , strictly a ufo sighting database. You can search by state ( or province, if you're of the canadian persuasion ). I got hooked when I saw how many of my neighbors have reported odd things hovering over the local nuke plant.
