Quote:
Yes I'm afraid I generalised calling the machine that plays the video tape a projector. Its at Goddard and its due to close very soon.Thats the important point, don't you think?

Yes, that's why they're trying to find the tapes... It just strikes me as confirmation-biased to say "the tapes have gone missing because there's something to hide" and imply that they're putting out of commision the old technology for the same reason... It seems to me from reading the news stories that the only reason most of us even know there ever WERE original tapes is because someone somewhere thought "hey, we should transfer those moon landing tapes before this thing gets thrown out" and then they discovered noone knew where they were.

Quote:
Hoaglands research is more than blowing jpegs up to the size of a barn. You are just taking cheap shots at the man and his work

Absolutely not. He's taking cheap shots at his OWN work...

I mean, some of his other stuff is a bit less obviously wacky, I agree; but really, if he's stupid enough to really believe obvious compression artifacts and the like really are martian cities etc, then why should I give any of his much less obviously wrong theories the time of day? It's an insult to my intelligence.

And if he DOESN'T believe them, then he's a hoaxer, either discrediting himself on purpose or just seeing what the gullible will swallow.

If there's a third option let me know, but in the meantime excuse me if I'll visit his site only for cheap laughs.

As for the crazy little expedition you describe, yes that's pretty odd to say the lease... I read about it ages ago, and was convinced something was up........
....... I read about it in one of these trashy 70's paperback paranormal books.

It's titled "Our Mysterious Spaceship Moon" and proposes that the moon is hollow, and is a spaceship!

It does so in part reasonably convincingly. It mentions the events you describe, theorising that they represented an attempt to enter the moon's hollow interior. However, most of the stuff in the book when i further looked into it turned out to be wrong in some way... for example they quoted various supposed "off air" transmissions from the moon missions which have since been revealed as hoaxes... So yet again I am left not really having any idea... just a lot of entertaining and increasingly audacious/insane theories that sound great but turn out too good to be true.

Quote:
Lunaranomalies has started a blog.

Cool, thanks. Will take a look.

Quote:
the possibility that the tapes may have been erased and reused.

Happened to early episodes of Dr. Who also. Not sure whether that's more or less tragic a loss to human history!
