Resolutions against PA could be partially effective in the sense of infowar, that is, of creating the illusion of cohesion in resistance to waxing fascism. The Librarians, so far, have had about the most attention from MSM.

And yes, before PA there was a "probable cause" kind of clause, and there still is. Of course, they can always fabricate probable cause after the fact, indeed they will if they choose to. I'm not suggesting you just sit and take it. I am suggesting that the system you intend to fight them with is the one they manipulate to control and contain you. It is akin to a dog using its leash to attempt to entangle its owner. It might slow him down some, but if he wants to, he could always just kick you, or refuse to feed you.

I just don't think it will work. Not to accomplish any sort of long term effect. And anything else is a waste of time.

So where are your solutions?

I expected you to come back in here and blow my idea completely out of the water with a brilliant one of your own.

I don't buy what you say about these resolutions.

Whatever unity you glean from a movement like that, is not a false front. It's real people just like you and me talking and getting to know each other and knowing we respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the way they were meant to be.

People try to marginalize the Patriot Act by bringing up the librarians. I don't like the section regarding libraries, either. I'm an avid reader and it's no one's business what I read. This makes me more careful about the books I check out. It really does. I sure never had to worry about that before.

There are plenty of cases of abuses of the Patriot Act. Look at Padilla. The Patriot Act is draconian and so much of it is unconstitutional that the ACLU is dismantling it suit by suit. ISP's have been presented with NSL's and they can't even be named in court papers against Homeland Security, they are automatically gagged by the laws governing NSL's at the moment they are presented with it and have to file suit anonymously if they choose to resist it. This never was before in all our history as a country.

The Patriot Act is also marginalized when you imply it's nothing new. It is something new and it's something the more people know about it, the less they like it.

imo

My only problem with any of this is it all seems a bit reactionary to me. You've let them decide which games we will play, and on whose side of the court they will be played on. They've got you on defense, so that they never have to play defense.

This is what I'm saying. We've been spending too much time trying to protect ourselves from their attacks. Not nearly enough time planning our own attack.

They are on defense mode today. Things are abuzz in DC right this second, you can bet your cell phone on that.

Is it foolish to think that Fitzpatrick might just do something to dismantle the power structure and some of the evil that has been done?

I'm holding out some hope on him, that he might do the right thing. But when I look down the line in possible leadership...whew, they all gotta go. DeLay was number 3 wasn't he or is that Hastert? I'd venture to say Delay won't be back. Then Condi Rice... that's as far as I got. If I am correct on this, as it stands right now, if Bush and Cheney were abducted by aliens tomorrow, then Condoleeza Rice would be sworn in as President of the United States of America. Oh, my.

Edited to say: Maybe this is wrong above. Here is a list I found of what I think is the order of succession if it is current. Seems there was quite a bit of wrangling going on in order to add the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to the list. It took a constitutional amendment and I barely heard a peep about it. Amazing.

Here's the listing:

The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate1 Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of the Treasury John Snow
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez2
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao3
Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta
Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson
Secretary of Homeland Security4 Michael Chertoff

Edited by: pugzleyca3 at: 9/28/05 5:37 pm

blacklisted

What the list truly implies is that there aren't nearly enough political magical bullets to go around. Mostly, we're just screwed. We're going to probably have to ride this one out and do damage control. But when are we going to initiate the counter-offensive?

Well, there's been so much damage done, there's plenty of work to go around.

To me, getting the resolutions on the Patriot Act are a huge part of some of this damage control. What these towns and cities are saying to the Feds is: We're not abiding by the Patriot Act." And I believe most cities and towns that passed this also asked their local police not to engage in things like NSL letter searches and that kind of thing. Things they thought unconsitituional. Montana passed a state resolution against the Patriot Act.

The net they're going to drop right on top of us real soon is the rfid chips for our id strips. Along with biometrics, and if Homeland Security decides they want us to start donating DNA, there's plenty of room to store that in your microchipped passport and driver's license. The biometrics industry is moving ahead like a bullet. Look at the worldwide contracts the Veri-Chip people have set up.

And all the billions of the commoners are to be kept track of by these means. The technology is there. The manufacturing capability is there to make the parts. The potential to make guaranteed billions is there, too. This is potentially a cash cow that is just way too good to pass up.

They have the control grid all set up and it's almost fully operational now. There's no way anyone could miss it, all you have to do is read some science and technology articles.

Do you believe the governement can resist using it? They've never showed an iota of restraint before. Martha Steward with a goddam rfid chip ankle bracelet that was publicised over and over and over. Conditioning: "It's a good thing." Please.
