California "UFO" sightings?

I just caught this post at NeedleNose which links to this SFGate article.

The article reads:
Residents across California and people as far east as Las Vegas reported seeing strange lights in the sky late Wednesday, according to Vandenberg Air Force Base on the central coast.

Base command staff at Vandenberg, Travis and Edwards Air Force Bases said there were no military aircraft in the sky that would have caused the lights. The Air Force bases also said there were no test missile launches Wednesday. Such tests have, in the past, resulted in light patterns that can be seen across the California coast.

The bases did not send aircraft to check on the reports of lights.

The Federal Aviation Administration's West Coast office had no reports of the lights and no aircraft were unaccounted for.

San Francisco resident Tim Sinclair said the lights appeared to be near the cross at the top of Mount Davidson Park. Sinclair, who lives near the park, described them as a series of solid lights that appeared to be hovering. When viewed through binoculars, the lights appeared to vibrate, he said.

Orbs are a whole 'nother type of sighting.

This is Dennis Kucinich in Tucson at the beginning of his appearance there, Feb. of last year. See orbs? They were in nearly all the digital photo my son took of him, indoors or out, on his three speaking stops in Phoenix and Tucson. The gentleman with him is of the Yaqui tribe there, giving Dennis a blessing.

The White Mountain Independent, last summer, posted a story and picture about a huge orb that hovered over a ridge east of Whiteriver, south of Pinetop, for nearly an hour. It didn't move, and was called "bigger than a full moon." Dozens of people called t report it; the tribal policefinally checked it out after it was gone, and said it was "somebody's headlights." The photo in the paper exactly matched other orbs.

I have theories as to what these things are... --MaryK

I just had the oddest thought, maybe

If UFOs are really alien spacecraft of superior technology, why would they need lights? Lights of any kind? Think about it.

Our aircraft have lights for various reasons: detection, visibility, illumination for landing.

I am revamping my criteria for UFO sightings. UFOs wouldn't need landing lights. They don't need to flash red and green and such. They have no reason to warn us of their presence or flight path.

Wouldn't they have far better navigational methods that would not require exterior lighting?

I think we are being fooled by government testings of experimental flying machines and our technology still needs green and red lights, and landing lights and whatever to navigate our skies. (We own a boat and the colored lights have meanings on the water. The same for aviation.)

Anything coming from another galaxy wouldn't have that priority or concern for our aviation rules and safety. They would have their own Operations Manual and it wouldn't be anything like ours.

According to the article, "lights" is the only description given. That isn't a very complete explanation here, which is why I posted about Orbs. --MaryK

Interesting point about these lights. I think I'll check out the different meanings of different colored lights for aircraft.

I will share an experience I had in 1974. I was in southeast Missouri and was with a friend. It was a few minutes before 11pm. I remember because I was under curfew from my parents and had to be home at 11. A few blocks from my home, we stopped at a stop sign. Some cars were coming so we had to wait. I looked out the passenger window and up at the sky and saw some lights flashing. That got my attention so I rolled down the window so I could get a better look. There was a metal craft hovering above the treetop of this huge oaktree.

Of course, I got really excited and told my friend who was driving not to go. We got out of the car so we could see better.

There was a classic ufo just hanging there at treetop level. No sound, (classic as well I found out later). It was a saucer shaped silver solid object, metal. There was a dome on top and lights flashed in a band around the dome. Green, red, white, yellow and maybe blue, too, I can't remember now, it's been almost 30 years ago. It hovered there for about 5 minutes.

None of the other passing cars seemed to notice, though how they could not see it, I can't imagine.

It lifted up and backwards and just went away. Just like that.

It looked like a carnival, the lights were so beautiful.

My friend and I got in the car and she took me home and that was that. I didn't tell anyone. My parents were asleep when I got home and I didn't ever tell them, until years later. And it is NOT like me to keep my mouth shut about something like that. It was really out of character for me.

My friend and I never spoke about it. A few months later we lost contact. I saw her about 3 years later and I said, "Did we see what I think we saw that night?"

She answered, "Yes, we did."

And that was that. We spoke no more about it then and I've never seen her since.
