In the intervening years belief in UFOs has been throughly discredited. I half want to say this could be huge, because it is from a former astronaut. On the other hand I don't know that anyone will care. It will just be cast as a bit of humor.

Or if you really want to get paranoid, are they preparing people for a full confirmation of the existence of UFOs?

International papers are, however. If this pattern holds the big story will be how Buzz used a pen to push a circuit breaker in place. And for those few who hear about the UFO sighting, people seem to shut out Gordon Cooper and Edgar Mitchell just fine, Aldrin will not be a problem; all that despite an often heard "so why haven't any astronauts seen UFOs?"

Meanwhile,

One wonders. Another astronaut, Edgar Mitchell, has been central to UFO lore and New Age thought for quite some time. And I've always had the feeling that he's part of some sort of game...but no proof. Just kinda has that "Nine" vibe about him.

Here are some possibilities.

1. UFO's are really alien spacecraft but the government knows as little about them as we do.

Significance: new forms of energy and travel and the possibility of joining some sort of galactic alliance. Go team!

2. Ufo's are alien spacecraft and the US knows LOTS about them. While I find very little in the gray/human alliance theories that seems anything other than very deliberate disinfo, that doesn't mean they are totally ignorant.

Significance: they are withholding information and technology from us and there are many elements of our history that we are not getting the full story on. Maybe see Richard Dolan and "UFO's and the National Security state." By the way, the point of view of that book is that UFO's are central to the development of the national security state. So it's relevant to creeping fascism, should this scenario be true: 100%

3. UFO's are a form of technology, but earthly. Elites on the planet have always had access to technology far beyond that of regular folks and continue to keep this secret. Think Tesla. I happen to think that a lot of UFO reports sound like stories from millenia ago, much less last century but still, the modern "saucers" could be secret technology.

Significance: There are elites and they have possibly society changing technology out there. Any tech that can do what those crafts are alleged to be able to do by witnesses can not be discounted.

4. UFO's are, for the most part, secret military tech. Kinda like 3.
see 3 above but also look at the very, very high level of disinfo being pumped out around this issue. See Jacques Vallee's book about his discovery of high level government complicity in elaborate hoaxes and staged UFO events. Also see Phillip Corso's book, a clear piece of disinfo. See the sad story of Paul Bennewitz. What's the purpose?

Significance: High level, sophisticated disinfo games including, perhaps mind control (alien abduction) and infiltration and/or outright creation of UFO cults. This ties into the larger theme of the weird intel/new age nexxus that I still don't understand but know to be there.

Paging Mr. Geller. Mr. Uri Geller, please bend the white courtesy spoon......

5. UFO's are not, for the most part, "hardware" at all but represent some sort of occult event...see Vallee again. Weird hyperdimensional beings/spirits/"controllers"/overlords/gods/demons/angels are entering our consensus reality for reasons we don't understand. Likely, these are filmed for a transdimensional Derren Brown of some sort to amuse his audience. The government or even elements of it don't really understand it, however.

Significance: Our understanding of reality is incomplete...and perhaps our understanding of religious experience. But if the government or intel types aren't directly messing with this stuff then maybe it's just for funsies.

6. See 5, except intel types DO know about this stuff. Nazis like the occult...and Crowley went to conjure demons in some horrible Nazi's estate. So IF there is some reality to an occult dimension of this stuff and IF.... occult practices actually DO anything, (which I doubt about 84.7% of the time) the bad guys would not only know but want to utilize these forces on their side. Or, less charitably, the bad guys went over to the dark side long ago. See Gravity's Rainbow for an amusing look at the former and see Jeff Well's for explanations leaning toward th e latter.

Significance: WE. ARE. FUCKED. Maybe, anyway. But in the meantime, we need to understand the role of power in history...and that includes forms of power we aren't normally privy to. Marx got the power of capital in shaping history. VERY important insight. But power has other dimensions maybe, and we overlook them at our peril.

Correct answer: All of the above for me...depending on when you ask me.

But when an astronaut of that stature who previously had NOT admitted to UFO experiences...(and I don't think Mitchell's UFO experience happened in space...but not remembering now) then it is very important. If it's disinfo...it's very important. If it's true...it's very important. I just hope I can get a copy of the interview somehow.

I've seen some extremely bizzare mpeg files on the peer to peer networks that show....things..in orbit. These are videos taken from orbit. If you have a file sharing client like Limewire, you'll find several by doing a 'ufo' search. Included in the list you'll get is the very compelling 'ufo crash' video attributed to either new Mexico or Mexico itself, I forget which, but in the footage, you can CLEARLY see a downward vertical-based propulsion jet especially when it gets close to impact and begins disturbing the earth below it.
____________________
Oderint, dum metuant

if he really saw something why can't we get a complete disription? I'll try to see this but I'm not sure I'll be able to.

this must be a radio documentary then right? There's only 4 BBC TVs... no it clearly says TV doc... what would a scottish paper mean by "on 5" ? and I'm guessing they mean Tuesday not Monday evening?

Edited by: anotherdrew at: 7/24/06 8:45 pm

His violent reaction to being called on it once is telling.

I tried and failed to find the story....perhaps my memory is wrong, but I read several times that Aldrin got visibly upset when publicly confronted with the theory.

yesferatu, I seem to recall a similar story, but I'm not trusting my memory very much on the subject. I definitely read, heard of or saw clips of an astronaut being questioned about ufo encounters and reacting strangely, but I don't know if it was Aldrin or someone else. I'm drawing a blank.

If he went, he would simply laugh at the absurdity.
In a quarter century we will know if it was faked. I can wait.
It's fairly low on the fucked-up things the MIC-controlled amerikan empire has done.
