Transcript and video at the CNN link

Plenty to analyze here, if you are so inclined.

Was the mic left on deliberately?

(Blair might have known - by looking at the video, it seems that Bush is clueless about it while Blair is talking in more cryptic, guarded tone, which is always a good idea when in public. Very intel-aware of him. He is also the one who turns it off eventually.)

Bush is not listening to him and blurts out some non-sequiturs with his mouth full of, most likely, pig with caviar.

Quote:
Bush frustration sparks expletive
....

Earlier in the day, Blair and Annan called for the deployment of an international force in southern Lebanon, in order to end the spiraling conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

The text of their conversation is as follows:

Bush: What about Kofi Annan? I don't like the sequence of it. His attitude is basically cease-fire and everything else happens.

Blair: I think the thing that is really difficult is you can't stop this unless you get this international presence agreed.

Bush: She's going. I think Condi's (U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice) going to go pretty soon.

Blair: Well that's all that matters. If you see, it will take some time to get out of there. But at least it gives people...

Bush: It's a process I agree. I told her your offer too.

Blair: Well it's only or if she's gonna or if she needs the ground prepared as it were. See, if she goes out she's got to succeed as it were, where as I can just go out and talk.

Bush: See the irony is what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it's over.

Blair: Cause I think this is all part of the same thing. What does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine, if he gets a solution in Israel and Palestine, Iraq goes in the right way, he's done it. That's what this whole things about. It's the same with Iran.

Bush: I feel like telling Kofi to get on the phone with Assad and make something happen. We're not blaming Israel and we're not blaming the Lebanese government.

Quote:
Prepare yourselves, this is gonna be heralded as Bush's 2006 'bullhorn' moment..

Thought about that, and so I visited my friends at free republic to see if they'd caught any of that buzz...oddly, not a mention.

Christ almighty. What a fucking crock.

Bliar sounds like he's on the podium throughout - speaking very guardedly and generally while Bush apparently pays him no heed whatsoever until he decides to stop filling his face and utter some boneheaded generalization through his mouthful of food. Ugh.

I'd say it's 50-50 whether it was staged. I watched the whole CNN piece and the reporter who introduced it is almost breathless with the whole thing. It's a 5 minute piece and he yabbers on like ademented fool for the first 120 seconds.

Anyone else spot how it's all background noise to begin with and then the Bush/Bliar conversation is brought up in the mix? That's clearly deliberate, but by whom?

I have to say......
Having read that transcript I would have to agree with you HMG.

The whole thing sounds like a staged event to me.

Sounds just too damn civil for a couple of murdering crooks.

Sounds almost too intelligent.

Ironic too that we won't get authenticity or real insight into our sub-rulers here, even with this "candid" incident - perhaps as unscripted as the Merkel massage or the Putin belly beso.

Blair drives the point home here, in excellent mocking fashion:

Quote:
Asked about the microphone mishap during his final briefing of the summit, Blair quipped that it was "all about transparent government." He smiled and tapped the microphone in front of him.

AP Link

Quote:
Private luncheon conversations among world leaders, picked up by a microphone, provided a rare window into both banter and substance

There seem to be a whole lot more of those rare windows opening these days. (Especially) for subrulers with nothing to lose, this could be an effective new tactic in the ongoing psywar - right up there with those pesky leaks of information and bizarre high level public molestations.

How did they manage to excise the part about them both bathing each other with the blood of sacrificed virgins?
