A break from everything.

I was wondering who among us have seen the old BBC mini-series Edge of Darkness, which was written by Troy Kennedy Martin, directed by Martin Campbell, and starred Bob Peck as Craven and Joe Don Baker as Jedburgh, in what I think are the best performances either have ever given. (Music also in part by Eric Clapton...as much a part of the success of this great gem as Knopfler's music was for Local Hero.)

There are some great scences, and some brilliant dialogue. And it is as complex and woven into life in a way that I think most of the posters on Jeff's site understand, or are trying to do...I mean in realizing that all this is about US as a special subset of creatures, and these disparate strands are not some disconnected, intellectual puzzle. It is a true picture of our lives we're trying to fill out, and we're all trying to do our bit to cough up a right, true, but tiny piece that someone else has the mates for.

Not only is this a great, unusual piece of drama (still unclassifiable by the usual genres), but there's hope in it for those of us who can sniff something foul on the winds.

Anyway, a lighter thread.

I don't know if Edge of Darkness travelled as widely in the US as it did here in Canada, where I've seen it three or four times on television.

Thoughts...observations...etc.?

Cheers,
GH
