Anyone else getting kicked off ezboard this week?

Postby Hugh Manatee Wins » Sat Jul 29, 2006 1:49 pm

Over the last week I've been automatically signed out from ezboard several times.

So many glitches. Hope the voting machines are better designed.

Edited by: Hugh Manatee Wins at: 7/29/06 12:02 pm

Kicked off? I can't even log in. I can only reply by keying in username and password each time and cutting and pasting subject. My comments show up in the thread but I'm still not logged in.

Also cannot log in at other sites I've registered at. One tells me to enable cookies but a quick check shows cookies enabled. Makes we wonder if there's some new kinda cookie my old (about a year) browser is rejecting?

Anyone up on these things?

That happens. Usually when you get kicked off frequently it's a sign that the server people are making upgrades to their security system. Because there's been a change, your old cookies or session tokens no longer fit the pattern or sequence required by the new implementation of security. It's possible, in many cases, to force the old tokens to carry over to the new scheme, but it's a bad practice. It's better and safer to force everyone to prove their identities again by logging back on.

It's reassuring to see that happen every so often because it tells you the site owner is actually maintaining the programs that provide the bulletin board, and not just letting things coast until something falls apart.

-Sepka the Space Weasel

It shows some perverse behaviours in security handling sometimes. Try this: Click on "Tools", then on "Internet Options", then on "Privacy". Click on the little button at the bottom that says "Edit". Enter the domain name of the site (e.g., just p216.ezboard.com, not the entire URL) and choose "Allow". That will fix most of that sort of problem.

If it doesn't, and if you do honestly trust the people who run the site not to take advantage of you (i.e., no spyware, data mining, etc.), go to "Tools" > "Internet Options" > "Security". Click on the "Trusted Sites" logo (the green check mark in most versions). Now click on the "Sites" or "Add" button, depending on your version. Again, put in just the domain, and add that to your trusted sites.

Be sure before trusting a site. Allowing cookies has little potential for mischief. Trusting sites does.

-Sepka the Space Weasel

Edit: Second example should have been "Security", not "Privacy"

Edited by: Sepka at: 7/30/06 6:59 am

Thanks Sepka, after rechecking it seems I didn't have cookies enabled after all. Doh [slaps forehead, blushing].

My computer's been acting weird for around 10 days. My internet access was suddenly cut off, with no warning and no bill being sent to me. Even though I have a fixed monthly charge for internet service, the service provider presented me with an enormous bill, which I had to pay to get service back. I don't download music or videos, and my consumption is well within the 300 mb monthly limit.

I would just consider this a scam by the service provider, but other things have been happening as well. For example, both in this forum and in others, I've had the browzer close when I press "publish", so that my comment is lost.

I use Vodafone for internet access, which, considering last year's scandal, when Vodafone was implicated in eavesdropping on Greek and foreign government officials, only increases my unease.

I'm trying not to be paranoid, but it's not easy...

Gads. How frustrating, Alice. And I sure want read what you have to say.

As I recommend to all, write your posts in another program and then paste them in to ezboard so you don't lose your work to 'glitches.'

Good luck with that rather interesting company as a dis-service provider.
