Jeff, I, for one, vote a resounding NO!!! I have outed myself by using my real name in signing off many times, on many threads, in my short history of posting here. I firmly believe that "echelon", "smechelon", and every other NWO "retch-elon", can tell "who said what (and where) on any given day", and, that no one who posts here is truly anynomous to the PTB. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.<br><br>It hasn't seemed that arduous for you, but I really don't know this for a fact, for regular posters to alert you in some ways, to point out to you, whose posts should go into the Fire Pit, and, those who should be truly BANNED FOREVER from R.I.<br><br>One thing that I, and others before me HAVE noticed, is that sometimes, in spite of properly entering our passwords, we are "arbitrarily" treated as either Registered Members or unregistered users. That give's me pause to wonder just WHO is actually running "blogspot.com", but I'm so so old and world weary, that I, just don't give a durn, anymore.<br><br>I figure that as long as your blog survives, I will feel free to read and post (within civilized boundaries), whatever I want. Censorship is 99% of the time a lousy idea, and even when a good idea, abanned-oning freedom of speech is best used as a last resort when all else fails. It starts with one person, then it gets easier, till it's a bannedwagon. And a site where everyone agrees is nothing but an echo chamber; sites like that often wither, or dis-banned.<br><br>You know, trying to get someone eles booted could come back and snap you like a rubber banned if someone else thinks YOU should be next out the door.<br><br>Sure, we may argue here like banned-ty roosters, even unto the Firepit, but most of us are just a Banned of Brothers, trading banned-ter that sometimes gets a bit heated; hence, the Fire Pit.<br><br>Kind of like an orchestra that has all different types of instruments with Jeff as the banned-leader. Free speech advocates agree, the remedy for free speech you object to is more free speech. So arm yourself with your uncensored words like a banned-olero! Don't mean to get all factual here, but why would one want to be a registered member? What does it do for the member and for RI? If not a member what effect does that have? I'm really asking about the mechanics of it. Everyone else seems to know these things, but I'm very much in the dark on this one. Can I actually help RI by being registered or myself or anyone else?<br><br>I've often wondered about this registering stuff, but never asked and I've never felt the want to register on anybodys board. But RI is different, so if it would help RI or others here I would do it. <p></p><i></i>

Only real advantage of registering is that your login info gets saved (as a cookie, on your own computer) so that's less typing. Also, it prevents other from posting under your carefully selected pseudonym. <br><br>I think registering posters is a good idea, by the way. Not for the sake of banning posts we don't agree with, but for the sake of keeping the discussions at a certain minimum level of civility. <br><br>And by the way, when you register, you really don't have to enter any of your real info. In that sense it's just a formality. On the other hand, if you are concerned about your privacy, you probably shouldn't be on the Internet at all... <p></p><i></i>

nomo, I agree with your 2nd & 3rd paragraphs, but I hate everybody's cookies!! That's why I let Firefox eat them all every time I close the browser. Even though, I've known for about a year that if your computer is on-line, it can be effed with by uncle Bill of the softMicro's and Uncle Sam anytime they please, unless you actually pull out ALL of the plugs when you're not using the ol' CPU. But even then, as soon as you hook back up, it's theirs to do with as they please all over again.<br><br> <p></p><i></i>

And, you can go back and edit your posts, if needed, if you are registered. And people can send messages to you through your user name. It certainly doesn't mean we know any more about a user that is registered, besides your username, all other info can be set private.<br><br>To me, it's less of an issue here than in the comments on Jeff's blog, where so many comment as "anonymous" and it gets confusing in trying to follow the replies and figure out if it is the same anon or another one responding. <p></p><i></i>
