Solitary Monsters

Yeh - somebody jumped in and destroyed the thread. Curious to know why Jeff can't just immediately delete that crap.

Cause he hasn't seen it yet, possibly? That was the main reason I posted here, to catch his attention..

That is insane. I was enjoying some of the best comments I've seen on one of his posts, and then someone posts a book and then someone else posts a booklength dissertation on Theosophy, then someone else complains about that and posts ANOTHER book length post that was probably off topic but I didn't read because that's just freaking rude!

Jeff...PLEASE stop using the comments section and link to a nice fresh post here on EZboard at the end of your articles. Just "Blog Article: Solitary Monster discussion" and then let everyone go at it. I think you'll have much more control...plus, sometimes really good comments over there get lost and I wish they'd find their way here...you have two conversations going at once.

And on a side note...I'm all for making this forum registration only unless you don't think that makes it easier for you to control such spamological behavior.

(I can't make up my mind on the McGowan comment over there. It was directly on topic...but posting EVERY Amazon comment?)

Is there a limit on text character amounts per blog post? Cause it looks like posting new comments is jammed now..

:?

edit: One hour later, the rest of the comments have appeared.

Edited by: et in Arcadia ego at: 1/19/06 5:51 pm

pity you deleted siddhartha so quick

Postby glubglubglub » Fri Jan 20, 2006 12:46 am

I'd have been curious to see if it had any typos -- it's not a bad way to send coded messages (insert them sporadically in a known long text). Probalby just destroying the thread -- but not sure that there's anything in the thread itself (as opposed to the post) that meris such an overreaction.

How about instead of a membership,

a short quiz ending with one of those wiggly alpha numerics that give c-rec a headache? I'd tolerate it.

If the quiz is easy and fair no problemo.

Perhaps the quiz could identify people with bad intentions, like a link that leads to a hackable simulation where the path ends up a choice between helping us or hurting us.

Then we've got'em

It's the same technology Gods use. I forgot the Brand name oh yeah "Free Will Trap".

firstimer

just want to clarify

Postby glubglubglub » Fri Jan 20, 2006 1:49 am

that I'm glad siddhartha and that other tract are gone, just that I wish I'd snagged a copy when I saw them there earlier so I could see if there's anything hidden in them...

in any case it could be an extremely naive attempt to break your blog (by straining the database server and hosing your bandwidth), naive b/c google picks up the bill for blogspot and has far too much capacity on-hand to let such an approach succeed.

I've had the window with siddhartha still posted from yesterday open all night and today reading it again. I figured it would get deleted so I haven't refreshed that window. I'll let you know if I see anything odd.

Is someone trying to cause trouble by violating the copyright?

tomes as blog comments---why?

Postby darkbeforedawn » Sat Jan 21, 2006 1:27 am

I am pretty new to the internet--just started using it and blogging a year ago nov. after the sickening spectacle of our "elections" so my opinion probably doesnot mean much. Anyway, I noticed that whenever someone has placed a particularly compelling, pointed or incendiary item on line, the comments are immediately filled up with writers who a. seem compulsively unable to write on the topic before them and b. go on endlessly with strange twisted diversions. c. usually go to great lengths to prove their "intellectual" muscle by mentioning all kinds of remotely related "facts" and finally d. try to engage the original poster in weird ego battles and strange posturing. Who has time for such behaviour? Could people like this actually be HIRED to do this? What is the deal? I am hoping someone knows something more about this than I do....
