Why would you think this is a hoax? "The Iranian government wouldn't be stupid enough to do it" could almost be the punchline from a comedy routine, considering their behaviour these past few months. -Sepka the Space Weasel

Latest reports from Haaretz and several blogs is - that it is not true. Analysts from Israel, including from security services, all agree this is not true and even unthinkable. Still, Bush has commented to this news as real, and so did half the world. So, go figure. It was my impression earlier on this board that canada will become more pivotal in the Bush plan, because of its Iranian diaspora, and that this is what determined the last elections. -- However, I am now more sure than ever that no military action will be taken against Iran, and that Iran will take no military actions against Israel. This is due to Bush's political "low time". He can't pull another stunt now. Italy changed regimes and is pulling out of Iraq etc. But someone apparently tries to inflame and incite...

is a piece of shit neocon rag launched by Conrad Black in the mid-90s to provide an "alternative" to Canadian media's then liberal/prog. conserverative consensus. It's now owned by the Asper family, who control dozens of other papers and CanWest Global Television. The Aspers' patriarch, Izzy, died a few years ago. From his <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izzy_Asper">wiki</a>: He was a prominent member of Canada's Jewish community, and was well-known for his strong faith and support for Israel. While a Liberal in domestic Canadian politics his views in regard to Zionism coincided with the right wing Likud - he was an admirer of Vladimir Jabotinsky. Asper would occasionally pen editorials defending the nation in his various papers and was accused by a number of media observers of censoring opinions critical of Zionism or which he deemed sympathetic to the Palestinians. He was also a critic of public broadcasting media, especially the CBC both for competing with the private sector as well as alleging that CBC News had a pro-Palestinian bias. Critics have accused Asper of simply attempting to eliminate competition to his business and political opinions. It is ironic that his last television interview before his death was to CBC journalist Evan Solomon. Asper was also a close friend of many of Canada's prominent political and business elite, including Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin. He had three children, David, Leonard and Gail, all of whom became lawyers. Leonard is also currently the President and CEO of CanWest Global.

According to Human Rights organizations, Iranian Jews and Christians are not persecuted. So it's quite right that this is unthinkable. This should be well known to president Bush's advisors... the propaganda war has definitely started.

Although he has not completed his evil plan, thank God, Bush did manage to scrap back every bit of gains, Canada made from selling out to Iran. By the time he is done, every dollar from Iran to canada will have been re routed to the "the mother ship"...in DC and a few more millions to cover fees and expenses (buying the elections, etc). -- Bit of a moral lesson to the Canadian left. You mess up with the big guys in a field you know little of (and attempt to immitate the "take no prisoners" ethos...) - you are gonig to fail and pay for this failure both financial and any other way. Too bad, but this has been the case with the left all over the world, which made it very easy for the Bushcos to win. Only solidarity can really stand up. Dirty "let's play CIA" games, always failed, big time (see Italy, Israel Germany, France and the UK, etc.).

The National Post was founded by Conrad Black and has been owned by CanWest since 2003,* is not a repository of expertise about Iran. It is typical of black psychological operations campaigns that they begin with a plant in an out of the way* newspaper that is then picked up by the mainstream press. Once the Jerusalem Post picks it up, then reporters can source it there, even though the Post has done no original reporting and has just depended on the National Post article, which is extremely vague in its own sourcing (to "human rights groups").

is the little bro of our PM. he was the "lefty" of the family (4 brothers), and so...not surprisingly, he went bankrupt and had to virtually ESCAPE Israel (he is a fugitive, strictly talking) with debts up to his head, and legal to criminal complications all having to do with finance. He is an academic by profession. (the other brothers are all big power - ehud -PM, the other - Mayor of small city, the other - CEO of big public corp). So, I am not surprised he is among these people, I am sure he had little to NO choice but to do what big brother Ehud says, in order to save his neck. He was in REAL big trouble here. But basically, he is a nice and OK guy. -- BTW, Ehud Ulmert has a LEFTY wife and 3 LEFTY kids. His daughter is anarchist activist against the wall; another son asked to be dismissed from military on mental health grounds, other son immigrated from israel for good, possibly on political grounds as well. --
