making lemonade

Postby mother » Sun May 14, 2006 3:43 pm

Thank you Alicethe Curious and Wolfmoon Lady and Dansk(sp) The domestic violence comparison is useful. It's like the schoolyard, where the bully, who is an attractive top student who instinctivel shows his "good side" around all authority, targets kids who are vulnerable because they're sincere. When the target finally fights back, the bully gets the target in big trouble, public humiliation and so forth. It has been depressing seeing this happen on RI, with the same people spewing hatred over and over. I am really grateful for your comments here, and my sense is that a lot of people with talent and good hearts and who have something to say are not going to, because of the "SS" crowd at the keyboard. Debate is good, but the hate is sickening.

The topic of this thread was: why do they want to scare us away from the news? This is a very rich subject, because in a society of individuals increasingly isolated from reality and enthralled by their tv sets, the news, and media in general, have become the filter through which we observe, evaluate and assimilate reality. It is also an important part of our children's socialization. Their understanding and knowledge of themselves and the context in which they live, and the normative values guiding their decisions are all to a great extent conditioned by what they watch on tv and in movies.

The fact that this powerful medium of information, normalization and indoctrination is concentrated in the hands of a few corporate entities, whose tentacles have a demonstrable and documented stranglehold on our governments and our military, means that we can't afford to be passive, but must observe and analyse in turn.

Sometimes people on this board make astute observations that make me take a closer look at things that otherwise would have passed below my radar.

If you have such an observation to make, or some bit of information or analysis that can add to my understanding or knowledge, thank you. Otherwise, shoo, fly...

SS?

Postby professorpan » Mon May 15, 2006 2:13 pm

Let me say a few words in my defense, since it seems I've become the focus of a lot of anger and have become some sort of "intellectual enforcer" or a virtual schoolyard bully in some people's eyes.

I'm sincerely sorry if I've pissed anyone off, but all I do is post my opinions. I try to back them up. I try to counter sloppy thinking, which is the bane of any "movement" to ferret the truth out of the ocean of lies, mis- and disinformation that we swim in, and I apply the same scrutiny to my own beliefs as anyone else who posts here.

If you look back on the hundreds of posts I've made to this board, only a handful get "personal" -- and those were in response to other people calling me a disinformation agent, fuckface, Satanist, and so forth.

I try to be respectful to every person here, but I don't use this board as a parapolitical version of Friendster or to seek confirmation of my own belief system. I don't attack individuals, but I will ask pointed questions, particularly when people make broad, unsupported statements. I like debate. Debate is good. Groupthink is bad -- and it gets in the way of digging for the truth. Some people seem to use this board as therapy or to reinforce their cherished beliefs. That's fine, but that's not why I'm here.

I don't even remember what happened with Cassandra, but I recall she labeled (or strongly suggested) that I was a Satanist. And people accuse me of being an asshole?

Here's a hint to those who think I'm stifling the conversation: You can ignore me.

Asking questions is not bullying. Pointing out logical holes in an argument is not bullying. Going against the grain of groupthink is not bullying.

Bullying is when people tell me to shut the fuck up.

PP, you are one of the few good writers here, who save the board from drowning in its own puke. hang on, this shit storm shall pass, too.
--
It takes a while to "read through" the masterfull disguises here. anyway, you have my vote, FWIW. I dno't like packs of wolves jumping on someone, however they reason their actions. If we need to, I'll call on the mossad gestapo to kick some (pc) butts here.
--
This has nothing to do with me not agreeing with your conclusions at times (as in the brazilian hallucinogen thread or re whether Ariel Sharon was or was not medically malpracticed), but you always reason your position, and wear your heart on your sleeves, without agendas. thats more than the usual poster, here or elsewhere.
