However, when I saw the rise of this materialistic hip hop I began to wonder if perhaps there are guiding hands at work directing kids at a conventional consuming shopping mall existence. I suspect there is, there aren't many major record companies left and Sony for example knows that spending tenagers are exactly what's good for Sony. There's no doubt that in the USA the alphabet agencies are always keeping an eye on potential subversion.<br><br>I wasn't suggesting hip hop was cointelpo music by the way, just that it had come out of a black community that had been heavily shaped by cointelpro.<br><br>If you read the story of Freud's nephew Edward Bernays who invented the profession of public relations in the 1920s . This may sound weird, but I think one of the problems nowadays with rock is with drummers. Nearly every studio recording these days is made with a "click track", which is basically a metronome generated beat that the drummer plays over. Of course, it's always been the drummers job to keep time and good time is important, but sometimes the time can be <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>too</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> good. The drummer (or anyone else in the band for that matter) push or pulling the beat creates a "tension" (for lack of a better word) in the music and makes it more interesting to my ears.<br><br>BTW, Constantine's book is really interesting reading. Some of his research and conclusions seem iffy, but overall I'd recommend it.<br> <p></p><i></i>

I think there's a ton of great music out there nowadays. It just isn't found on American commercial broadcast radio. And National Public Radio "public" (actually mostly corporate underwritten) stations are primarily news, public affairs, and news-talk programming these days. <br><br>However, there are some excellent music programming to be found on various non-commercial listener supported stations, and college radio stations. <br><br> If you have sufficient computer bandwidth- more and more people are getting it, these days- here are three quite good radio outlets featuring a variety of shows independently programmed by the DJs themselves.
