The Coup

Postby TroubleFunk » Wed May 10, 2006 5:07 pm

Hey, all you people wondering things about the Coup - it wouldn't kill y'all to just pick up one of their CDs and give it a listed. I suggest STEAL THIS ALBUM but they're all good, and radical in a socialist-leaning, pro-black kind of way, VERY INTELLIGENT and sometimes a little corny, even.

They could sure use some success, and you could really help Boots & Pam out. Yes, Boots (the guy with the afro) is the rapper - in fact he's everything except the DJ, and the DJ just scratches occasionally. Nearly everything else is live instruments played by friends and guests.

I just wanted to throw this out there - The Coup are so far away from Wu-Tang territory I suspect you'll be really surprised. So go, buy a used copy. Or Steal That Album!

Dude, I'm going to try to see The Coup when they come to Boston. I saw their opening act play in JP, this Puerto Rican DJ kid who slings wicked samples, raps, and does all the background vocals. Really good shit.

Haglund of the Lone Gunmen weighs in

Postby professorpan » Wed May 10, 2006 6:00 pm

Thanks.

I listened to the interview with Haglund by Alex Jones (in the excerpt that's available free). Here's what Haglund said:

"That clip... I hadn't heard it in some time, and I'd forgotten how close the writers were when they wrote that 8 months before it happened. And of course they were just picking up on popular culture, you know, Tom Clancy had written it in a book, and they just sort of, you know, put obvious scenarios together for... to make for exciting drama."

"The writers... were so freaked out by the coincidence."

Later he again mentions the "bizarre coincidence."

"A lot of the writers at the time had connections... the FBI really enjoyed watching the X-Files and towards the end of the show NASA, everybody was coming to us with all sorts of things." He then talks about some NASA robots that were named after the show.

Jones suggests that he do a program where he talks to the writers to see if they were tipped off. Haglund says "You know that would be a great question.... I don't know how much they talk about it these days because they're all busy on other projects."

--

Haglund does say the FBI enjoyed the show. Nothing sinister there -- wouldn't you expect a popular show about FBI agents to have fans in the agency? Ditto NASA.

That's a far cry from "military consultants."

Thanks, compliment accepted. See you on the playground after school, pal!

Sorry to others who have to watch this thread degenerate into shit like this -- some people can't debate the merit of ideas without turning it into a personal war.
